China Airlines Flight Time Reduction VIE-TPE

Thu Sep 15, 2005 10:09 pm

Today I have read that the flight time from Vienna to Taipei has been reduced by 60 minutes due to permission to overflow Chinese territory.
It seems that the relationship between China and Taiwan becomes better, but I don't want to initiate a political discussion herein.

Anyway, this will help China Airlines a lot to save fuel and time!

Yup, they announced they want to fly over China, and China agreed pretty quickly. They're doing everything they can to make Taiwan happy (to be part of China -- and thus luring them in).

It's a great thing for the carriers, since they save a lot of fuel, and they become slightly more competitive since they don't have to waste time on basically a detour. The next step is direct flights between Taiwan and mainland, although Taiwan is still very skeptical since they don't want the risk of having a plane-load of PLA troops land in TPE.

Will those flights to Europe that stop in BKK (for instance Eva and CI to AMS) also be allowed to fly over Chinese territory or will they still have to make this detour and therefore the fuelstop in Bangkok?
