Transatlantic Or Bust!

Fri Sep 16, 2005 4:08 am

Ok for the longest time the 767 was the most popular acft on transatlantic routes.. is this still the case ? And who do you see as being the future king of the transatlantic skies ? Also which airlines fly transatlantic with the most diverse fleet usage (e.g BA 767's 777's 744's ) and which do you think is the most commonly served route ?
Dont forget Charters and South American routes ..
and As a finale who is the strongest performing airline flying transatlantic strong being who fly's and makes money on the routes ? (kinda interesting now with the news regarding DL & NW)
A boring thread ? hmm... I hope not..
your thoughts Dear friends...Lets have a good ol' debate !

The 777 probably is the most frequently used a/c on the Transatlantic sector!

The 777 flies for UA, AA, DL, CO, BA, AF, LY, MS, PK, AI, KL, AZ, RG, KU, MH, SV...

The 767 also flies quite alot across the atlantic for BA, DL, AA, UA, LOT...

Rob!

I will be on a US 762 next Thursday taking advantage of end-of-season fares to GLA.

Yay for old birds!!!

EDIT: I agree that the 777 is probably the most widely used aircraft to cross the Atlantic.

The 767, in fact, does hold the record for the most Trans-Atlantic crossings.

I agree wholeheartedly, but I think at this point the 777 is doing most of the work.

Do you really think that they are ageing? Strange, they were both delivered new to MA on 30/04/1993. Just twelve years ago.....  Confused

Don't forget CO and AA with 757s, 767s and 777s.

I suspect LH or AF may use a fair few types though.

LHR-JFK by a long way. Multiple daily flights by BA, VS, AA and UA.

Of major airlines it is probably BA thanks to their high level of premium traffic they carry transtlantic.

altohugh not what you had in mind, but Privatair probably make the most in relation to their size  Wink

I think LH use 340's on their FRA-LAX route and a few other trans-atlantic flights

For the most diverse fleet I would have guessed at AF. VS is quite diverse though with the 744,343,346.

I did think that the 767 was the most used plane across the Atlantic, although it wouldn't surprise me if it was the 777, from LGW alone theres loads of them !

As Cornish points out LHR-JFK is easily the most commonly served route with I think roughly 13-16 flights a day served by BA,VS,UA,AA,AI and KU.

Condor
Varig
Aeroflot
Pluna

AF transatlantic: 777 / 747 / A330 / A340.
That makes a diverse fleet across the Atlantic !
They also sent 767s to PHL I believe.

Well back in 03 LH sent 763's to PHL and ATL for a breif period of time. In PHL they went to an ex SABENA A332 and then back to the original A340.

LH also sent the 763 from MUC to MIA when that service was first started up.

LH transatlantic is quite diverse...

The opinions expressed here are mine and not necessarily those of Delta Air Lines.

I read that this run will be on the 738, replacing the KL Proper 767 that runs 3-4 times a week.
