717-200

Sun Feb 07, 1999 3:42 pm

What other airlines order the 717? I know Air Tran is the launch costomer for the 717, but has any other airline order them too. I think TWA did..... not sure.

Here are all of the orders (and options) for the MD-95-30 (71*-200) so far:

AirTran: 50 (50)
TWA: 50 (50)
Pembroke Leasing: 10 (0)
Baravia Leasing: 5 (0)

For a total of 115 orders (+100 options).

As i recall, TWA has placed orders for both the 717 and the A318. Why is this? Aren't these two planes fairly comparable in size?

Yes, they bought 50 of each, even though those planes are in stiff competition. As I recall, they plan to use the MD-95s for regional routes throughout the midwest and east from STL and JFK. The A318s will be used to open up new smaller markets more distant from STL and JFK, such as ones on the west coast where MD-80s are too large to be economical.

Also TWA will be getting the B717 15 next year
and they won't get a single airbus until 2002
because Airbus is a copycat in this case and
their a little behind.
