Why No A-310 Replacement?

Mon Sep 19, 2005 12:51 am

It seems to me that there is a big hole emerging in Airbus' line-up with no forseeable plans to replace the A-310.

There is a significant gap in capacity between the A-321 and the A-330, and with B-787 sales booming I am surprised that Airbus is not working to upgrade or replace the A-310.

I know that in theory the A-310 is still available for sale, but several years of no orders seems to be sending a clear message that a replacement or major upgrade is needed.

Can Airbus afford to ignore this sector? Am I missing something?

I think Airbus need to make a aircraft to replace both the A310/A300 series! (I know that the A350 probably can take over from the A300)

Nope, I think Airbus need a aircraft between the A321-A350 size of the future! One to compete with the smaller varient of the 787!

I think an A310 replacement may come as part of the A320 replacement. It may be something more like a B757-300, perhaps with smaller wings for 2500nm range and larger wings for 5000nm range -- ala the different wings for the B787s.
