Continental 777s

Wed May 10, 2000 11:37 am

Will Continental be ordering the 772LR or 773ER? Does Continental have B777-200ERs or 777-200s?

CO currently has 15 772ER's in service. The 16th (and last.. for the moment) should be delivered shortly. CO's CEO, Gordon Bethune, said a few days ago that CO is "looking at" both the 772LR and 773ER ... But there are no plans for them at the moment.

Would be nice if they got them and restarted Australia service...IAH-SYD maybe? Would love to fly my favorite airline to Australia!   They even luck out w/ the GE90s...how perfect...

CO got their last 777-200ER on Friday 5 May and was here again yesterday 8 May at LAX on a revenue flight. I also hope that they go for the 777-200LR. The777Man

Ship 016 is in service is it? Gee, take a few days off....The "Oz" question was raised at the same meeting with Bethune, and, sad to say, but don't be looking for CO colors down under any time soon.

Whats anytime soon? This year? Next year? Five years down the road? This aircraft, if ordered now, wont be available til at least 2004 anyways. Possibly by then there will be an Australian Open Skies agreement...anyone know when that will happen?

From the fleet plan CAL put out a couple of years ago , they were to add one 777 in 2002 and another in 2003.

That fleet plan is turning out to be as flexible as Gordon says it is. It shows MD-80 retirements starting in 2002. At the earnings announcement three weeks ago, Gordon said that three MD-80s were to be retired this year along with 11 DC-10s and CMI's five remaining 727s.

"Any time soon" in this case means years from now...if ever.US-Australia is much more of a leisure market then a business one. Revenue generated from the latter is much greater then is the former, so.......For the time being, SYD is several spots down on CO's list of new markets...with or without the 772ER. SORRY!!
