NW DC-9 Routes Out Of SFO

Tue Sep 20, 2005 3:33 pm

I will be in SFO end of October and want to try out NW's DC-9 on a short
one day trip (non rev). Is there any suitable route for this? (low loads, frequent departures, flying time < 2 hrs)
Any help is greatly appreciated!

NW does not fly the DC-9 out of SFO (mainly 757's due to range and high amount of people), so you would have to fly SFO-MSP/DTW and connect to get on a DC-9 where there are numerous DC-9 routes.

I believe that NWA does not fly its DC-9's into SFO. SFO gets the A-330 to NRT, Airbus A-319/320 to DTW, MEM, and MSP, as well as a handful of 757's. SFO may also see a DC-10, but I have never seen the company's 9's at SFO except in the days of Republic and Hughes Airwest.

NWA briefly flew DC-9's on its single daily flight between LAX and LAS but it currently operated with an A-319 aircraft.

The first time I ever flew in my life was in 1982 on Northwest Orient from ORD to MSP on a DC-10, and then to SFO on a 727 (don't remember what series...was only 9 y.o.). I remember looking over a red bridge (any guesses?  Silly ) with an engine immediately behind me (I was in the back, it was noisy, and I remember the FA's hiding in the galley with the curtain closed).

Not sure what the post was for as he is going to be in SFO... it's an A320 now.

I'd rather be on the ground wishing I was in the air, than in the air wishing I was on the ground!

If you go to MSP, you'll leave there never wanting to see another NW DC9 ever again! Big grin
