BIG Changes In DFW For Delta Again...

Wed Sep 21, 2005 2:26 pm

Employees in DFW are gearing up for more BIG changes again...

Speculation is the ramp will be contracted out to D.G.S
(Delta Ground Services). Will know tonight at 7 p.m (Wed) local time. This
is not going to be good.

The return of the dreaded RJ's. Coming December 01, 2005. Just can't
get rid of those miserable airplanes....

And maybe more to come in January 2006.

Pay and benefit cuts coming Thursday.

What a great week ahead! Uggh!

Late 90's, Delta mainline in DFW flew 287 flights.....

January 30, 2005- Delta mainline 54

January 31, 2005- Delta mainline 21

September 01, 2005- Delta mainline 19

November 12, 2005- Delta mainline 20 (DL485 DFW-ATL returns)

December 01, 2005- Delta mainline 13, ASA 1, Comair 3
- Delta ATL-9
- Delta SLC-3, ASA-1
- Delta CVG-1, Comair-3

January 04, 2006- *** Speculative *** Not Confirmed ***
- Delta mainline 5, DCI-12
- Delta ATL-2, DCI-7
- Delta SLC-2, DCI-2
- Delta CVG-1, DCI-3

*** The January 04 schedule shows 7 DFW-ATL flights booked with less than 20 reservations, one or two showing only 1 reservations but the actual availability of seats to sell all have been reduced to no more than 15 reservations. This could be either by a schedule change still being worked and aircraft being reassigned, or more cuts ahead in DFW for Delta mainline.

Either way, things in DFW for Delta will never be the same and it's a shame to see such a great airline not offer more service as it once had.

Those are definitely false, there's no way DL's only going to have 2 mainline flights between ATL-DFW. Things will change shortly, I wouldn't worry about it, the full schedule isn't uploaded yet.

Well I don't see DL going down to two mainline flights to ATL.

I know for certain you can add another destination to your list starting in December.
It's a big building with patients, but that's not important right now.

Wow, DL will really add service at DFW again  Wow! ? Hmm, probably a daily r/t on the E70 to connect with DL's international flights seems the most reasonable route.

Think of a city where DL runs lots of point to point flights, but has minimal connections.

The most mainline flights Delta ever had at DFW was around 260, and that was in 1993. A big cut in flights was made in spring 1995 which brought the total down to 195, and by fall 1997 the total was down to about 125. Things have been downhill since. I simply want to point out the decline of Delta at DFW started well before the late 1990s.

The sad thing is that DL is breaking the one good thing done when transforming DFW from a hub to a station - uniform product. All flights were mainline. That was beautiful - for what it was. Now re-introducing the CRJ... Part of that is CVG's fault, I'd rather of seen 4x 732 go to 2x 732 instead of 1x 732 and 3x CRJ.

You're totally right. It amazes me how some people's view of history is confined to what they had for lunch yesterday.

The decline of DL at DFW actually began with the WA acquisition. It wasn't an earthquake, not even a mild tremor, but an insignificant, but no less important blip on the richter scale.

The addition of a SLC hub coincided with a build-up at CVG.

Delta thought with an economy of scale at DFW, they could overcome the airport's inherently high cost of doing business. So they grew the hub looking for that critical mass...it never came.

All the while, it became painfully evident that the core Delta customer could be shot out west much more cost-effectively through either ATL and SLC and to a lesser extent CVG.

So the DFW hub remained to cater to the loyal DL customer in and around DFW....but service downgrades and cuts drove even the most faithful and elite-status customer away.

What we see is the end result of 3 decades of events...it didn't "just happen".

I said in an earlier post ... it is pretty telling that pretty soon, AA will have more flights (and perhaps more seats) between ATL and DFW than DL. I don't think that's been the case for 2-3 decades -- if ever. Sad.

Id put money on JFK, MCO to FLL

JFK could possibly meet up with INTL flights, MCO or FLL maybe song, FLL could possibly retaliate against NK for adding ATL.
Experience is what you get when what you thought would work out didn't!

I thought about those, but was favoring the side of what DL realistically will do from DFW.

If I have to pick just one, it would be JFK. Second choice is BOS.

AA didn't even start flying to Atlanta until after deregulation. I believe it was 1985, or at least right around there.

Late 1984, with 5 daily flights.

Thanks for all the comments...I knew the dates of Delta's high in DFW might be off but the basis of the comment was the fact how big Delta was to where it is now.

As for the new destination for Delta in DFW, it's probably going to be MCO.

I would really hope for Song, but not holding my breath on that.

Yeah you would put yourself into a state of unconsciousness.

The new destination will be 2x daily with EV.

And you know this because??

We are getting our butts kicked in Dallas. It is entirely conceiveable and probable that if we can't make money in the market, we're going to pull back in a major way.
Tired of airline bankruptcies....EA/PA/TW and finally DL.

Remember: The schedules are not finalised yet!
Looking at the schedule on the date given in the first post, I count the following flights from DFW:
ATL: 2 M88, 3 738, 2 757, 2 763, a total of 9 mainline flights. Not as much as they are today, but far from the 5 mainline and 12 RJs.
CVG: 1 732, 1 CR7, 2 CRJ
SLC: 3 MD-90, 1 CR7
Quite a difference to the first post, right?

DAL767400ER...re-read the bottom statement for which I posted in the first post.

You are correct about what the schedule shows, but if you don't have access to DLterm, inter-company booking engine...you won't see that the allowable bookings left on 7 of the DFW-ATL flights have been zeroed in all coach classes of bookings i.e B,Q,M,H,L,U. These flights are only available to book up to an additional 15 bookings. Like I stated also, regardless of what you see or where you get your information, this very well could be due to the schedules/aircrafts being still worked...or...a possible major mainline cutback in DFW for Delta. As for 9 DFW-ATL flights, it is down 2 from what we currently offer today.

This is because the schedule isn't finalized yet. You will notice all through the system that "new flights" that are part of the Dec 05 changes aren't bookable outside of F/A and in some cases Y class.

I hope they're building some more hotels in Cozumel to cope with all the increased service they're getting this winter.

cheers
