Hi.

I have to agree with you on "...We cover the rest" from SAS/Star Alliance.

As an international student in in NZ though, I have to say I fell for "The world's warmest welcome" (Air New Zealand) as I have only had good experiences with them, both internationally and domestically.

Or how about "It's Scandinavian" - again from SAS. You can't get any closer to the point on that one.

These amusing marketing strategies....

Si quieres volar, navega.

This must be explained. I don't know if in other languages the translation would be correct, but in Spain we use the word Navegar (=sail) for using the internet. So this is a good publicity for the new Iberia's on-line booking:

If you want to fly, sail.

Well the best AND worst was the spoof on the old AA song (I think I saw it on SNL or something), circa early 80's:

"We're American Airlines, Crashing our DC-10's"

I have seen some pretty funny slogans for Continental at Houstion (IAH). My favorites were:
Like that new car smell? Then you will love our planes!
and
Its not just our logo, its also our route map! I love the "work hard, fly right." Its simple and to the point.

Here is JAT's sloga, pretty plain though although I thought I post it, what with my username taken from them.

"JAT, more than flying"... and I've also heard
"JAT, flying and so much more"

and for their excuse of a frequent flier program:

"JAT, more than flying and one flight more"

I live in the US so I like Continental's to the point "Work Hard, Fly Right." In passing by Newark airport on the NJ Turnpike I saw a Continental billboard that said sometning like "You don't have to put up with our competators, We do."

"Something Special in the Air", absolutely timeless.

What was that Delta one, that was used in the late 80s and eaely 90's, then they switched to something more dumb,

I would have to say that the one out by Air Canada for the past couple of years called
DEFY BOUNDRIES. I also have to say that I like the latest one by Canadian Airlines about their PROWD WINGS.

Also I like the British Airways slogan The worlds favourite airline!! I highly doubt that it is the worlds favourtie airline! Well I must be taking off now talk to you all later!!

We had a lot of them at Air France, the actual oneis very long but nice and is :
"To make the sky the most beutiful place on earth !"
before that we had
"winning the hearts of the world"
We also had,
"Ask the world of us"
"the fine art of flying"

UTA's ones were :
"UTA, The airline on which the sun never sets"
UTA goes were your dreams take you"

I am sure you will come up with some veryclever ones about AF !!!

Driving from Melbourne to Brisbane, Australia, some time ago, I saw a sign on the side of the road about 1200km into the journey (it is about 1500km by road). It had a picture of an F28 in the then Ansett Express colors (former Ansett Australia subsidiary), and read:

"Car sick? Take this"

I thought it was quite clever!!

Here in metro Detroit people make fun of Northwest's slogan...."Some people just know how to fly....and none of them work for us. Fly Northworst Airlines."

Seriously though, on the in-flight safety video the song sounds good when they get BB King or other musical artist to sing "Some people just know how to fly."

Sabena's former slogan "Enjoy Our Company". Nice pun.

Now, it's "Flying from the Heart of Europe" BTW.

I like Swissair "The refreshing airline" and "we care".

But the best was a Billboard from Southwest in Las Vegas. It was "San Diegogogo, go now for $40 one-way".

This one is in Norwegian and it is impossible to translate into English:

'Du kommer ikke frem sånn helt uten Widerøe'

It's really a great slogan and I wish it would be possible to translate it into English.

I agree with LH423.

"We're American Airlines. Something Special in the Air."

But I also like

"Delta. We love to fly, and it shows."

I was on a United flight a few months ago, and the pilot thanked us for flying the friendly skies. I sincerely believe that United's Friendly Skies campaign should be resurected. It really is timeless.

The new US Airways "Come fly with us." campaign is pretty decent. I hope they take it far.

My best is the now non-existant South African domestic carrier, Sun Air. Their slogan was "Sun Air - outshining the rest" and they did!!!! Pity they are gone, and damn SAA for swalowing them up!!!!

To elaborate on the FedEx "singing pilot" commercials---this could be my favorite one of my two favorite of all time:

"Just about the only thing we CAN'T carry is a tune"

I think the best slogan is not by a airline, instead oneworld's slogan used in their launch advertising:

"oneworld revolves around you"

It's very true, and it's basically their philosophy. Their network is very integrated, with the exception of BA/AA (no thanks to the FAA/DOT)

Didn't Delta have the slogan "Come fly our freindly skies" in the mid or early '90s? Or was it United's? Oh well, whosever's that was I liked it.

I also like the FedEx "...about the only thing we can't carry is a tune," and Southwest's "You are now free to move about the country."

I took a trip with my high school band to New York City this spring. We went to go see "Phantom of the Opera" on Broadway. In the program we received there was an ad for National Airlines of Las Vegas. It said

"New York to Las Vegas...No Intermission...."

Aer Lingus (1970's) Look Up, its Aer Lingus
BEA (1950's) BEA, the key to Europe
BEA *(1970's) BEA, Number 1 in Europe
National (1970's) I'm Barbara, Fly Me (other girls names were used in these ads too).
BOAC (1960's) Try a Little 10derness (extolling the virtues of the VC10)
British Caledonian (1980's) I Wish they all could be Caledonian Girls (to the tune of the Beach Boys song)
