QR 85 DOH MAD 12.35 p.m. 08.00 p.m. (Fri.)
QR 81 DOH MAD 00.50 a.m. 08.15 a.m. (Sun.)
QR 85 DOH MAD 12.35 p.m. 08.00 p.m. (Mon.)

QR 86 MAD DOH 08.55 p.m. 07.10 a.m. (Fri.)
QR 82 MAD DOH 09.25 a.m. 07.40 p.m. (Sun.)
QR 86 MAD DOH 09.05 p.m. 07.20 a.m. (Mon.)

Anyway QR will also continue to fly only to FCO on Wed. as DOH-FCO-DOH service.

Bye

Does QR have traffic rights Italy-Spain?
I know that TG does, which it operates 3pw.

For QR to extend FCO to MAD, it is fair to assume that tha FCO-DOH sector wasn't stacking up in it's own right..

Not before time as Spain is poorly served from the Middle East with neither EK or GF operating direct services.

It's true, EK doesn't serve Spain at all. That is surprising to me, I guess that would be because of lack of aircraft. Actually a smart move by QR to service MAD then, they don't have EK competition there, yet, and can build up customer relationships there before EK starts.

MAD's an ideal gateway, no THE gateway, to Latin America too sp maybe QR will get the jump on EK on these routes too.

But seriously....this was long overdue in coming.

This is a major problem for both QR and EK and is stopping a lot of their European and US/Americas expansion plans.

What is with the stupid schedules? Is it that difficult to schedule 3 weekly flights at the same time?

But how about the airports DXB and DOH? I heard that Doha will get a new one and that QR doesn't want its A380s before that (around 2009). And EK will have to move to this Djebel Ali airport if they want to use all those planes they ordered, right?

QR is still too small of an airline. They have 2 main banks at their hub and many of their destinations are not yet served daily. So this Madrid flight is planned in the way that every bank is at least connected once a week to MAD. QR has to grow even further before they can make their schedule simpler.

I'm not surprised to see QATAR AIRWAYS beating EK to MADRID  biggrin   biggrin  Can't wait to fly 5-star to MADRID on QATAR AIRWAYS.

Rumour has it that QATAR AIRWAYS might also open BARCELONA in the near future. Any truth to this?  bigthumbsup  Great if it's true.

Depends which aircraft you are on. If you get the AB6 you wouldn't call it "5-star service".  Wink

Great news for Madrid.

What a great option to fly from MAD to FCO. I did it once with Thai and it was ok but not much more.

I would also love to see a direct flight as it would make a very good alternative for flying from Madrid to New Delhi or Osaka.

Is there really so much traffic between Qatar (or Middle East) and Spain? How many Spanish passengers will use Doha as a transfer city (or gateway) if their destination is the Far East?

Kuwait Airways served MAD in the 90's with a weekly flight, they operated an A300 via FCO. The MAD leg was discontinued because of the poor loads. Most of the Spanish passengers were just going to FCO. I think the same happens right now with Thai's flights (operated via FCO), i'm not sure.

I would be surprised if EK starts operations to MAD. In the recent editions of Madrid's tourism fair (FITUR), Emirates had a stand with lots of information about Dubai, their fleets, route network and so on. And every time, when I asked them for possible direct flights to DXB they said that they didn't have plans in a near future.

I visited Dubai in 2002, stayed there for ten days, and I haven't met a single Spaniard (tourists or residents) in this city and on the AF flights. Just lots of people coming from Britain or other countries in Europe. But I was surprised to see there Zara and Springfield stores (Spanish companies).

We have to wait and see, maybe QR's flights are successful and soon we may see EK, Kuwait Airways again, Gulf Air,....  spin

You are wrong with that, TG flights to Madrid are working very fine. Now we have 3/w MAD-FCO-BKK + 1/w non-stop MAD-BKK (2/w next summer) all operated by 744. Thailand is one of the fastest growing destination for spanishs tourists + a perfect airport to connect to the Far East.

Plus if QR is sucessfull in MAD, flights will become nonstop to DOH very quickly. A year ago QR was serving 54 destinations, now Madrid will be it's 69th destination. Connectivity in DOH will grow with each new aircraft delivered and each new destination.

Unlike another competitor from the arabian gulf, QR has a fairly cautious way of going into new markets. Usually they start small and then build up the destination.....

The old frequency issue. I guess they'll send two planes per day, but some that come from TLS, which is not too far from MAD. These planes feel home in that region, which is very important.  sly

I think the majority will connect to Asia.

"Small" is really the right word. To TXL they'll start with an A319! EK or EY don't even have narrow-bodies.

Given that there is no direct flights to India or Japan for example, from Madrid, and that Qatar Airways is an excellent company, I would have definitely used their services to go to India many times.
