More Miles For FF Awards In New USAirways

Tue Sep 27, 2005 2:39 pm

Got my email from USAirways going over the combined US/HP FF program. I was surprised that the miles needed for a domestic ticket have increased from 20K to 25K miles. Someone had told me that HP required only 15K miles so I had hoped that it would be 15K on the combined airline, but now this?
Disappointing, but not surprised.
Current: http://www.usairways.com/dividendmil...guide/award/award_travel_chart.htm
After Oct. 5: http://usairways.com/dividendmiles/r...award_charts/us_hp_award_chart.htm

Thoughts?

(Sorry if this has been discussed. Couldn't find it...)

I expect they will become very stingy with mileage and rewards. I still have a bunch of US Airways miles to burn from ANC . . . and I suspect it won't take me nearly as long to burn them as it did to earn them.

That is of course, hoping they keep the ANC service.

Maybe increase the ANC service?  wink

Well, this seems to happen at all airlines right now. They are trying to save money everywhere and while until now they have been a little careful about changing the FF programs, they seem to be targeting those next. From what I hear many airlines are going to revise their programs. Even now most airlines charge 25,000 for a domestic, so US is merely getting to the typical level. But in the near future we may see airlines increasing the amount of miles needed - probably for upgrades first, then for international awards and finally for domestic awards. Also, the "fees" for award tickets will continue to increase.

My educated guess is that soon a domestic ticket will be 45/30/20 (First/Eco/Upgr) and a transatlantic will be 120/90/60/35 (First/Biz/Eco/Upgrade).
At least I see United go that way.

I really hope it does not go that far!

Yeah, and they added the 'platinum' level in between Gold and Chairman's Prefered.
