DM Moves From Tegel To Tempelhof

Wed Sep 28, 2005 2:37 am

Hi,
today, I got an e-mail from DM that my flight from BER to CPH is now leaving from THF instead of TXL. I just checked on their website. DM starts flying 11 times a week between THF and CPH - starting 30th of October. I think this are good news for Tempelhof, considering the owners wanted to shut it down (and also good news for me since I've never flown to/from THF). Well, it looks like another step to secure the future of THF.
BTW I find it a bit strange that DM hasn't had these information on their booking system one week ago. Nevertheless, well-done DM.  bigthumbsup

This is great news. Having flown in and out of THF this summer using dba, it is wonderful to see another airline catering to the wishes of the people of Berlin and not those of Bundesland Brandenburg and Fraport.

Absolutely good news. That airport must survive, the airlines' interest speaks for itself. Let's just hope certain officials get that in their dark red heads...

I don't understand this. It's more a dream of politicians from Berlin to develop the Tempelhof area. Politicians and city planners have seldom such an opportunity... Tempelhof isn't really competition to BBI.

This is fantastic news for THF. THF is a much better airport than BBI for business travellers.

I really don't understand why we want to reduce the airport capacity of Berlin to one airport. Replacing TXL and SXF with BBI is a good idea, but IMHO THF should be kept open. This way, THF would complement BBI. As a compromise you could prohibit flights above a certain MTOW from THF, so that it is only used for smaller airplanes...

But I will say it again and again, THF must stay open...

Brandenburg stands to make lots of money on the closing of THF and particularly TXL. Remember, only a small portion of 1 runway at SXF is actually in Berlin, the rest of the airport is in Brandenburg and they jointly own it, as opposed to THF and TXL which are completely within Berlin. Sure, some people (developers more than anything) want to develop Tempelhof, but more than anything, it is commercial interests. The thing that really gets me is that there is plenty of prime real estate in Berlin that is unused and a housing surlpus exists to the point that it is likely the cheapest major western city to live in I have ever seen. Developing Tempelhof would actually exacerbate that situation.

Which airliner will DM use? A 737NG? Nice to see such big airplanes in THF

N1120A I don't deny what you're saying, but the idea to close THF is an old one coming from politicians within the right-green spectrum in Berlin. Hence the pressure to close THF came from the Senat of Berlin. Of course, for all those reasons you've mentioned, was there no risistance from Brandenburg.

They will use 737-700s and 500s.

From the Maersk homepage: Europa til lavpris: Fra i dag er det nye Sterling en realitet. Efter sammenlægningen med Maersk Air vil selskabet fortsat blive markedsført under navnet Sterling.

From today, the new Sterling is reality. After the merger with Maersk-Air, the company will continue to be marketed under the name Sterling.

What does that mean? Will the name Maersk-Air and this beautiful livery disappear next year? If so, I think this is one of the most stupid management ideas since the "Condor-Thomas Cook desaster", as Maersk actually is a name much better known outside of Denmark than Sterling...

Will this have influence on the route network of Maersk?

I hope not... But what I've read on a.net - such terrible thinks will happen. Martinair - Maersk Acquistion Of P&O Approved (by TR Aug 5 2005 in Civil Aviation)
At least you can still book C class on their homepage.

I guess moving from TXL to THF and adding flights has somthing to do with the merger. It would explain why they changed their schedule so abrupt.
