Scrapped MD-80

Wed Sep 28, 2005 5:08 am

I found this picture of a MD-80 at pp.net: http://www.flugzeugbilder.de/show.php?id=394187

What is the c/n or (former) registration of this aircraft.

It looks like to be us by MNG for spares.

It's a MD-80. Note the dual fwd baggage compartment doors and the aerodynamic device beneath the F/Os side windows. The -30 had neither.

Without any reference letters or numbers on the fuselage, it's almost impossible to tell which MD-80 this aircraft used to be. The two exceptions I've noticed is the red square above the first passenger window on the starboard side, which looks like a country's flag to me, and the three painted areas on that side as well. Perhaps it was a former AOM aircraft. I don't think anyone can tell which ship this is, with this particular photograph. Regards.

The red square is the flag of Turkey and the aircraft seemd to be operated by MNG Pax, so of the painted squares, the three big white ones are covering the letters MNG, the small one the addition PAX.

It appears to be a Turkish flag, and the picture was taken in Turkey- rereg?.

EDIT: The livery looks similar to SAS, but the painted over areas do not fully match up with a SAS livery, only the blue tail...

Having search the net for Maddogs from MNG I found 5 planes: TC-MNO, TC-MNP, TC-MNR, TC-MNS and TC-MNT.
MNO, MNR and MNT were flying on the same day or some days after, which excludes these planes.
Airfleets.net mentions that MNS has been leased from Jetran.
According to AeroTransport Data Bank the info regarding MNP has been embargoed for non-subscribers. It's not the case with MNS.

Conclusion: Likely to be TC-MNP we see on the picture. But we still need an actual confirmation of this.

TC-MNP is the only non-RVSM approved aircraft in the fleet of MNG;

there are no pics of it in 2005, but in 2004 it did not have the blue tail:

A member of www.md80.net confirm to me that this plane is the TC-MNP.

according to http://www.airlinerlist.com TC-MNP was stored at IST in june 2004. Any further info on this plane seems to be missing. Even the almost up to date http://home.hccnet.nl/p.w.riool/main.html hasn't got any info.

AMSSFO another and later-in-2004 picture shows TC-MNP with "bruizes" on the tail.

It was put in service for the first time in June. Airliners.net states that it was reregistered at IST at May 31, 2004 and seen at June 3, 2004 presumably in service. The pictures I provided the link to are all taken at June 5 and 6.
According to the pic provided by JHSfan (Thanks!) it was still flying in early August. For some unknown reason it was wfu after that date. The reason might be an incident (damaged beyond economical repair) or might be related to its non-compliance with RVSM rules. When were these rules implemented?

I do not see the bruises. What do you mean?

The tail changed color from white to blue. In Danish we often call bruises for "blue markings". Maybe my thinking was too Danish when writing that- sorry for that.
