AA And 744?

wasn't at one time AA was looking at the 744? what routes were they planning to use them on? why didn't they buy them?
Give me a break, I created this username when I was a kid...

Lemme put it this way, Any Airline that has the 777 will have a 1% chance of getting a 747, 777 is more advanced, flys farther faster, and is more luxurious.
  for the 744 on American, Forget it. The 777 is their Main. United is planning on getting rid of their 747 planes as soon as they get more 777's as for NWA, they might keep it

I can't imagine American going 747 with SOOO many little guys. United, for example, doesn't have that many 737s. Anyway, I never heard of it, though it would be nice lookin'.

No no no no no no American is not going to order any 747 at all. They used to have 747-100's and SP's years ago but they got rid of those because they weren't efficient for them to operate. And they don't need such a large capacity aircraf for the network that they have, even if they do need an aircraft with a capacity of 500+ passengers in a one-class configuration, they would rather choose the 777-300X which Boeing is planning to build wouldn't they? The 777 is so far the best and most luxurious aircraft in the long haul market, they are more fuel efficient than the 747's and MD-11's and they look fantastic. I love it. Even in economy class, each passengers can enjoy a wide variety of films plus a moving map showing the progress of the aircraft. In a decade from now, the only two widebodies that will be operated by American will be the 767-300ER and the 777-200IGW.
American is very happy with the triple seven.

What About Delta Then....?

What is the rumor that I hear about Delta possibly getting some B744, if the plans of opening up an Asian hub in Seoul? I consider Delta to be in the same category as American, in terms of fleet of Airplanes and routes.

United with so few 737s? According to Boeing's website, United has taken delivery of 233 737 aircraft.

UAL, with 44 (max ordered) 744s, is not planning to get rid of this majestic bird anytime soon... FYI, they are the cash cows of the fleet... alongside their little sisters, 777s, which, sadly-but-acceptably, have displaced big mama jumbo as the pride and flagship of the 'line. Pretty soon, the smaller siblings will outnumber the 744s! UAL is scheduled to have 44 744s as of now thru 2002, and 61 777s thru 2002 (I believe they have around 40 now). Laters
no wire hangers!

The 777 is - and will stay - a secondrate widebody-aircraft and can never really compete with a 747. More effiecient it may be, its a lot newer, but I´m sure that the proposed 747NG will have similar economics, and a airline in need of a big plane will go for that or the A3XX.
And a big airline who don´t need a real flagship (like AA obviously) will go for 777s or A340s. If I´m going long distance, I´ll surely stay with the most popular bird around - and that will NEVER have the designation 777, that will have a nickname like everything and everyone who´s popular - that´ll be called "Jumbo".

AA looked briefly at taking Canadian's 744's when the Chicago-Tokyo authority opened up in the early 90's. This would have only been temporary until AA would have received more MD-11's (at the time). Unfortunatley at the time, UA won the route and AA never got the 744's.

AMR has a long standing aversion to four engine aircraft...You have a better chance of seeing a 767 in Pan Am livery....lol

If you want to say, you can call the 777-300 ER a type of 744. The 777-300 ER would hold slightly less passengers, but the range would be pretty equal.

Are you sure? I never heard of that.

As sai, they thought to take up some CP's 744s for the ORD-NRT they were applying for in the early 90's. I never got any confirmation whether it was for 2 or 3 aircraft.

Back in 1996 they were proposed some not-taken-up Asiana's 744 IIRC. But they refused again. So did Continental and United (that one because of the RR engines).
