CX Vs. AC YYZ To HKG

Wed Sep 28, 2005 9:41 am

Well, I was biterly disappointed last time I flew AC's YYZ-HKG in Exec first on the A345 back in July.

now I am flying to HKG the middle of October. My company limts my choice to either AC which is apparently booked solid in Exec First almost everyday that works for me from 15 to 18 Oct and also on the return toward the end of Oct.

So I have to go through YVR on AC or take CX's flight that stops in ANC. Both choices will mean the flighty will take longer...and I do not like CX's arrival at 7 AM in HKG even though I am flying Business class

Your advice would be appreciated!!

Although I have never flown them, fly Cathay...any Asian major outranks its North American competitor. And a seven AM arrival will not only afford a sunrise but a nicer flight...on CX!

Yes true, but the AC A340-500 service isn't exactly a typical North American.

the AC A345 service is actually disappointing.....I am an ELite Air Canada flyer and would love to fly AC anytime

I requested to our travel office to fly YYZ-SFO-HKG (the latter on SQ...but flattly said no......)

Not the plane, the service on the plane. AC's A340-500 is slightly higher service than the rest of AC's fleet.

Well i infer that Yegbey is perhaps talking about the seat/product.

Therefore im asking what it is that left him bitterly upset.

Seat buttons were all messed up. personal IFE ssytem did not work 14 hours out of the 15.5 hour flight. AC's generodity as compensation: 200 CAD voucher.

I don't care about the voucher, but I would much rather fly ACs 763's than A345 exec class.

the A345 seats not very impressive at all. They look pretty jazzy on the website. nothing aginst the A345. I love the fact that I can fly nonstop

How are the Exec First seats like? If you fly CX, what sort of class are you going to be sitting in? I recently flew J on CX from HKG-LAX, service is as good as they always are.

I actually like the 7am arrivals. Surprisingly, I don't get that tired throughout the day and I have a wonderful sleep at night when I finally do sleep. Some caffeine will carry you through, and it makes for a great start. Sometimes I actually have more problems adjusting when I arrive at 7pm, which is the other option.

AC vs. CX? This is a no-brainer. Although I have never experienced AC's long-haul product it couldn't come close to CX.

Go Cathay and don't look back!

well with AC having a deal on aeroplan of getting double the miles if you fly them executive class I would definetly go AC. That flight being around 15-16000 miles with return would get u 32 000 miles. If you value airmiles thats a pretty sweet deal. You need to sign up for the promotion on the aeroplan site before u make ur booking btw.

AC's service will be getting some serious upgrades in the coming couple of years. For now, fly Cathay. When AC receives their 777s, with upgraded cabin, they will be on the same level as Cathay and others.

IMO cabin and service are two separate things -- and having a great cabin doesn't say anything about service.

So... unless AC plans on training their FAs to make sure they have the level of service to go with the brand new cabin, I'll still say CX is better (and they generally have better food).

Asia Miles is also having a double miles offer for members based in Canada running til Dec 12. A Biz return ex-YYZ nets 38,980 miles. Miles can redeem for travel on AA and AS.

As for the AC via YVR or CX 1-stop via ANC, CX should be faster since you don't have to deplane at ANC both ways. Also coming back to YYZ, on AC you need to get off to clear customs @ YVR before going to YYZ.

By the time North American carriers finally upgrades their Biz/First class hardware by moving to flat beds, other premium carriers in the world like BA, VS, SQ, CX etc. are probably already in the next cycle of updating their products to something above and beyond what they currently offer. I would hardly think AC will catch up with the oters becuz the world doesn't stand still waiting for them catch up.
