AS/UA RNP Approach Eval At SFO 29 Sept.

Thu Sep 29, 2005 9:27 am

Just a heads up for anyone at SFO late night (2330) this Thursday, AS and UA will be flying around during the night. The flights is for an evaluation of RNP(required navigational procedure) approches for SFO 28R. Alaska will be operating a 737-700 (a/c reg. unknown right now) from SEA but not land at SFO. Alaska a/c will meet up with a United plane from 2330 to 0500 were they will do pattern work and practice the RNP approach for 28R while other a/c will fly the ILS for 28L. The United type is unknown to me and maybe somebody at UA can find out.

I have watched AS a/c do this before over night and it is very interesting. For any of you that would like to see 2 a/c doing go-arounds at the same time while only a 1,000 feet apart or so at night, this is for you!

Should be able to dig up more info tommorow!

Thats it will....but fun to watch. Specially if you can sit over at the Marriott. I watched 2 AS planes to the RNP approaches a few years back and it was a blast. I was invited to go along, but due to all the equipment and camera there was really no point since I couldn't sit in the jumpseat. If they were to land at SFO tommorow, I'd think about jumping on.

I am looking forward to next week. Blue Angels should be parked over at plot 41. Do you know what day they fly in jacob?

Alaska will be using a 737-700 ....a/c N645AS

Thats will be interesting with UA using the A320. 2 years ago when we worked with them on RNP, they were unable to get the A320/19 to fly it due to avionics issues. Obviously that has been resolved and will be nice to see them flying their planes on the RNP approach w/ ours.
