BA Newcastle To New York Direct

Thu Sep 29, 2005 7:10 pm

Someone in the office mentioned this is starting next year. I can't find anything here about it. Anyone have any information? Frequencies? Equipment?

Cheers,
Josh

That service will not be operated by BA but by AA. I don't know if BA would have their code on those flights.
Next flights : BRU-ZRH-CAI (LX)/ BRU-FCO-TLV (AZ)

I think CO might also be interested in starting this route to EWR sometime in 2006.

Flights operated by American Airlines using B757-200s.
I believe that the NCL management were actively seeking AA to start this route rather than CO, although not sure this is completely true

Yeah its going to be a 757 in all economy layout. Fares are from 221GBP + 121GBP (OUCH) of taxes!! Cant wait  Smile It will be so much better than going to London to get the plane only to fly back over NCL enroute  Smile

It would be nice to see something other than 757s. I live fairly close to the airport, there's been a load of them flying out over the summer, on charter mostly. There was a Air Atlanta Icelandic 747 (replacing something else) in last month, heading to Orlando. Rare to have something that size. Incidentally, does anyone know who operates the Orlando flight normally and with what? There is a picture of a Monarch A330 on the database. I tried the Monarch site but couldn't find anything, neither when searching for flights anywhere else for Newcastle - Orlando.

It has been discussed in a few breakrooms that we may be flying to NCL soon.

That sounds steep, especially as it's the starting price. If you're okay with shelling out that kind of money out though I suppose it's a convenient service. I would rather spend more time and get down to Heathrow so I could fly on something other than a AA 757 though!

Thanks all for your help.

There is not enough demand for two carriers. CO won't start this service since AA went first.

I as surprised to see JFK would be a daily flight. I would thought they would start with a 3xweekly then build it up from there.

True, but I guess if they are looking at doing a codeshare with BA, BA will know what kind of demand there is for people booking flights NCL-LHR-JFK so can fairly accurately estimate what kind of demand NCL-JFK would attract.

I can see then upgrading to a 767 at some point after starting service, as the 757 still is only going to carry a percentage of the passengers that we have scope for here in the Northeast.

Didn't someone say that the market fior NCL-NYC is 200,000 pax a year?

The real market for this flight is freight. AA has entered into a long-term contract to carry coal from JFK to NCL...

I agree........

and on a more serious note, the 757 ain't exactly a really good aircraft for hauling freight due to it's non-containerized belly.
