18 Year Olds Airline?

Fri Sep 30, 2005 7:38 am

I remember a few months ago someone posted that an 18 year old in I believe England started an airline. Is this true and if so how is it doing. I don't see who would want to support him financially

Nexus was the airlines name.

Its launch flight is Nov 1 to Tenerife.

A business plan is a business plan, and that is what investors decide to invest in, not whoever runs it. Obviously, experience is better, but if he worked out his business plan properly and argued a convincing case for profitability, then why shouldn't they invest?

He did NOT start a complete and whole airlines. All he does is wetleasing and subcontracting planes on an ACMI basis for holiday tour operators.
That is much easier and hazzle free than starting a whole new airline from scratch.

If you look at these links, you'll see that the 'airline' has failed to meet its target dates for launching flights.

If you follow this link then you'll find that you can't book online and if you try the phone number given, no one will answer, and you end up being connected to a fax machine.

There's a common factor here.... both 'airlines' are looking like works of fantasy.

Weren't Nexus Airways (or at least the owner) banding around that they'd chartered Futura. However Futura denied all knowledge of any deal with Nexus. Liverpool airport also said they knew nothing and no arrangements had been made for ground support/ops.

Could it be that this kid just decided to make this website for fun and had no intention of really getting it off the ground.
It could explain this comment, and why the airport doesn't know about it.

The picture of their 737 was taken in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004. I could tell that right off the bat.

This is the thread you're speaking about I think. I started it:
18 Year Old Starts Airline (by Rossbaku Jul 19 2005 in Civil Aviation)

Hope this provides a little more information for you.

I suspect the idea was to sell the seats to tour operators as the operating days are " Traditional" change days for the UK market.. this appears to have gone to ground when the CAA asked about the bonding for the flights.. seriuos money needed just for that...

This reminds me of Mainline Airways like 5 years ago (west coast USA to Hawaii). I think that was run by a 19 y/o. At least they had a call center and a wet lease contract. I think that got shut down by the state of hawaii about a month before the launch date because they were advertising as an airline when they were not.

A quick Google on Nexus Airways reveals that they are due to start operations on 1 November. I certainly wouldn't rule out anything - there are even tour operators selling flights on the airline.

The Rising Star Award, in association with en Magazine, recognises an individual or a group showing exceptional promise and an entrepreneurial spirit. It was won by Daniel Reilly of NEXUS Airways, presented by Kevin Spencer, Business Development Director at Excel Publishing. (Finalists: Adam Parker - X-Pression, Callum Reckless - Reckless Barrett Marketing Ltd.)

The guy has even won marketing awards!

Had to have a chuckle at this post by him on another forum:

Then we have the people on aviation forums, who are saying... it won't work and that its just a scam LOL... apparently they can't get through on the phone lines... (perhaps if they had the intelligence to read the phone line opening hours they would be more succesful!) then there are just comments which don't really deserve a mention, because they are clearly from bitter twisted people who have nothing better to do than moan and talk about thing's they have no idea about!

Kudos to him! Seems to me there is an awful lot of jealousy surrounding this startup. An A.netters dream perhaps?

No jealousy here. Just a dose of realism.

The picture of the plane is a 738 and he said on his website 734, so much for honesty, oh well a bit of creative "advertising".

Such maturity from an airline/ticket provider/virtual airline CEO.  Smile
