Best European Airport

Fri May 12, 2000 10:42 pm

Which is your favorite European airport? Why? Is it because of its traveller frienly service or because of its efficiency?

I haven't passed through many but from the ones I've seen, I liked London's Heathrow the most, although I travel through Paris' CDG frequently and also enjoy it's service a lot.

ZRH..............Kloten in Zurich. I stopped here over night on my way to Malaga and was fascinated with the place. Definitely one of the more logical and interesting airports I have seen.

From what I`ve heard Amsterdam must have a very passenger-friendly airport.

Thank you Carioca Canuck. Obviously i agree with you, but at the moment ZRH is not as good as it was. In two years there will be a new terminal and a people mover, in four years a new airside center with many stores and other facilities, then ZRH will be again on top.

I think all american and european airports are very bad. We should go to Hong Kong or Singapore and learn!!!

Looks like you never went to Pittsburgh or Montreal Dorval ...I think these airport are very friendly, especially the US Airways concourse at KPIT !!!

I never went to many airports in Europe but i would say that CDG is my fav, mosty because of his modern look and friendlyness.

I liked London Heathrow, eventhough it's congested. In terms of variety, nothing in the world comes even close.

I'm sorry, I disagree with you on LHR, I do not think it's a very good airport. Too congested, and delays or more likely the rule than the exception. LHR needs a major re-structuring if it wants to be more efficient. It's not bad though

CPH, AMS and OSL are my favorite airports in Europe, good facilities, low connection times and flights depart ON TIME.

I've also heard that Helsinki is good, but I've never been there, so I can't really tell.

I have been in ZRH Kloten, and in LHR, and also in Frankfurt-Main Airport (FRA)
I would say I liked all of them. Moreover, since I am Greek , I've been in most of the Greek airports.
LHR, has indeed a lot of variety, but also very easy transportation means both within, and also for London.
Zurich Kloten, is very good to wait, cosy but not congested, with great views to the runways. Also the view overall is one of the best.
As far as the Greek Airports are concerned, I would say that they lack the organization of the big international airports, but during big stopover, I have many more options there   Also check out the Greek Duty Free Shops. Great deals.
Best Regards,
Emmanuel

Based only on types of aircraft diversity, and the sort, London Heathrow is the best of the European airports. Yes, it is congested, and needs a lot more room, but it is definitely best!!!

Need to get anywhere in the world? LHR will atleast get you near it, if not there. LHR hands down.

Spotting...definitely FRA

Sat May 13, 2000 11:41 am

In terms of spotting for aircraft I will have to give the reward as best airport to Frankfurt. I love the fact that you can look the pilots of a B747-400 right in the eyes. In terms of friendliness and easy to get around, FRA is getting my last vote, especially Terminal 1.

PS: Cincinnati is also a beautiful airport in the US.

Last summer my Delta 767-300 flight from Amersterdam to JFK was delayed like 5 hours (mechanical, or so they said). Schiphol was a dream. Beautiful airport done in sophisticated Euro-modern design, great layout for plane spotting and great spotting. Good food and beverage choices, casino, mall, and very friendly design. Clean, good signs (in all important languages) and very secure. Also train to/from Amsterdam didn't hurt either. Very impressive. Stateside, I like ATL. Many have had delays, I still haven't. In terms of plane spotting, not much variety, too many mainline Delta MDC products. Terrific layout, good stores, food options, and clean. Its fun chaning planes there.

1.) SXM St' Maarten: Need I say more or explain?
2.) LHR Heathrow: many varieties
3.) ZRH Zurich Kloten: Great for aviation enthusiasts

Hi,

When you take into regard the number of flights LHR is probably the best in Europe. But when you look at the number of connections (different cities served) FRA just leads AMS. So if you want to get anywhere in the world you will probably want to fly through FRA or AMS.

AMS is just the best in Europe. It will take a while before any main airport can get close to what Schiphol is now. Great for spotting, short transfer times, many shops, bars, restaurants. It has a casino and even a hotel behind customs. It looks always very clean and fresh something you can't say about CDG or FRA. Buy the way Vienna has an excellent airport too. Not too many connections, but Austrian sure serves a lot of Eastern European cities from Vienna

see ya

Has anyone been to the "new" Oslo airport? Well, I have in addition to all the major European airports and I think Oslo is the "best" hands down. Typical Scandinavian efficiency and friendliness. No delays and most always on time. Try it sometime
