I have been looking for ANYTHING on such a landing and can't find it. Where did you hear of this?? A link??

If it did happen, I would hope all are okay as well.

Nothing nowhere, not on cnn, bbc, african-news-pages, yahoo, reuters etc.. If anything happened at all it wasn´t obviously something as dramatic as a true "belly landing" (which suggests a write-off). Where did you hear from it, your post is 3 1/2 hours old by now, hard to believe that none of the news networks have grabbed it up by now!

Well, News Coverage may not be all that great. He may have better resources than the rest of us, because he is an Airline Pilot.

Although if more info can be aquired, please share.

Thanks

Not sure what happened, they apparently had an emergency after takeoff and returned to land. Some form of manfunction with the gear happened when they landed closing down the runway.

Runway is now clear so I dont think it could have been a wheels up landing either.

Just to let the uniformed know, if you were meaning the Newcastle in the north of england then it hasnt been a mining city for quite some time.
Sorry but we get alot of lame mining jokes about Newcastle lol

Back to the main topic
Anyone got any pics of this incident? Seems abit strange how a 747 has a belly landing and they call it a minor incident and now say it has been moved from the runway so quickly.

cheers

According to the Cargolux press release it wasn't a "gear up" landing, merely a partial deployment, with the left main gear failing to extend fully.

Believe it or not, but a great share of the flowers one can buy in Holland are actually grown in Africa. Some Dutch entrepeneurs took their business to Kenya, where the weather is better, labor is cheaper, and government regulations aren't as strict as in The Netherlands (if they exist at all). And including the costs to fly these flowers back to AMS / MST (CV flies NBO-MST several times a week), the price for these flowers isn't higher than of those grown in The Netherlands.

One of their other 742F's had a problem in Hong Kong last week closing the runway for a while and the aircraft had to be towed from the taxiway back to the freigt ramp. All I could see was the nose gear doors open during the landing.

Thanks fior the picture Zeke.

Guess they show just how tough those old birds actually are. The damage looks minimal from what I can see in those pics, so I'm sure that bird will be back where it belongs soon.

The big issue that I see though is that concerning the maintanence of these Air Atlanta freighters. This must be the third or fourth incident in the last year with their cargo a/c. If it is happening so regularly with their cargo a/c, what state are their passenger a/c in and how long before one of those has an incident !!. I think that the autorities need to take a good look at them and their proceedures.

Well done to the crew though for bringing it down safely.  praise

Definitly not as disastrous as originally made out, i guess the 747 could hold itself up on the other 3 sets of gear under the wing

Yep in another thread here a brand new all nippon 744f is in the hanger with gear that wont come down, so its not just an only bird thing.

In the top photo of reply 17....is that guy, and some of his mates, really trying to "push" the gear back into place? Ha!
There's some timber bits there on the ground, looks like they were trying something, and that "something" miraculously worked, judging by the photo just below it...Brilliant.

Good to hear all is well and not as serious as previously thought.
