New American Airlines UK - TV Ad Here...

Sun Oct 02, 2005 10:53 pm

Here is the new American Airlines TV ad that is currently being shown in the UK, I saw it this morning on SkySports when watching Arsenal vs Birmingham

You can watch it here:

Looks quite good, a shame it doesn't show any a/c!

"We've flown more New Yorker's to destinations around the world than any other airline..."
Is this true?

When NCL flights start AA will offer up to 25 Daily flights to the UK! Big grin

Rob!

Hi Rob,
I've seen the advert a few times now, its not bad but I don't see too much point of it and what they are going to achieve from it.
Has anyone else seen it ?
Up to 25 flights to the UK per day is sure impressive, does anyone know how much 777's AA have?

Best regards,

New Yorkers eh? I'll stick with BA.
I don't understand everything I don't know about this.

It sure is, they have 45 777-200ER's, with more on the way!

They now serve:
GLA - 1x ORD
MAN - 1x ORD, 1x BOS
NCL (soon)
LHR - 2x BOS, 5x ORD, 2x LAX, 2x MIA, 6x JFK
LGW - 3x DFW, 1x RUH

I too have seen the AA advert on channel 4 ( I think it's was channel 4) and I found it funny how they say " and if we can keep them happy".
Correct me if i'm wrong but America is more than just NYC ?  Wink

P.S-Don't AA fly SFO-LHR ?

Well, AA certainly carries more international passengers overall than any other U.S. airline, but I doubt if AA carries more passengers international from the New York area than Continental. That being said, maybe AA means over the lifetime of their service. AA flew more flights and more people to, from and through New York's three airports than Continental for a long time, and AA is still the region's close #2 airline, behind CO.

AA has 45 777s in your fleet, but if you mean how many 777 flights does AA have to the U.K., the answer is 18 -- 16 to LHR and 2 to LGW.

No, and they never have. AA wanted to fly SJC-LGW back in 1998, but did not get the route authority from the DoT.

Is AA still intrested in launching this route, be a good alternative to SFO?

I hope so, maybe a BHX return could be next, maybe from BOS, JFK or ORD!

I wish they did, in fact I had started thread a while back...it turned out to be an intersting thread....I think they should

I wish they do..as I would take that flight all the time... yes

LGW - 3x DFW, 1x RUH

actually, they cut back on some of those flights, for example, their LAX-LHR flight gets cut down to 1x/daily during the winter, and their ORD-LHR gets cut down to 4x/daily (which is still a lot) during the winter.

cheers.. wave

Once the 757s are retrofitted, I would not be surprised to see GLA get year-round or seasonal nonstops to one or both of BOS and/or JFK, and I also think that BHX stands a fairly good chance of seeing a JFK nonstop with the 757.

Quoting B742 (Reply 8):

No. That route won't happen now. The high-tech traffic between Silicon Valley and the south of England that would have made a daily 763 profitable and fillable has now all but evaporated with the tech bust. What traffic there is between SJC and Europe is now served quite well via nonstops out of SFO, or connections over any one of many U.S. hubs (DFW, ORD, MSP, DTW, JFK, ATL, etc.)

Isn't that so true  banghead  , trust me , when you go to America and watch their news channels ( CNN for example) you would think America was the only country that existed

NCL (soon

What requency will that be at ?

Why no JFK ,BOS ,ORD ,MIA to LGW ? I think MIA would do well with all the lesuire traffic. and there is not much compotition on the other premium routes.

AA tried BOS-LGW some time ago, but left the route quite quickly.

Is there any chance of AA setting up at CWL, possibly with a 752 like they have done at NCL?

NCL-JFK = Daily during summer, 5 x weekly during winter

Probably not with CO at BRS.

I'd expect next UK routes to be MAN-JFK, BHX-JFK and GLA-BOS/JFK

MAN-JFK was tried and failed to attract the numbers (competition from DL and BA on the same route at the time). They now codeshare on the BA1502/3

MAN-LAX is still doing the rumour rounds. If AA can bag the freight to justify it then they should start that, possibly in 2006/7.

There was a rumor a few years back that AA would be replacing BA on the route so BA could finally get out of the business of flying longhaul outside LHR -- which we all know they hate. I do think that once AA has its upgraded J product in place on its 763s, it could make a daily JFK-MAN-JFK flight work in place of BA's current flight.

I would call the chance of AA launching MAN-LAX as less than 0. There is absolutely no way, IMO, that we will ever see AA on this route. AA couldn't even make LAX-CDG work, so why would LAX-MAN be any more successful? The market is too small, and yields too low. If this route is to be served nonstop, I think BD will probably be the airline to fly it -- and even then, I doubt it will happen for at least a few years, and I doubt it will be more than a few flights per week.

AA tried BOS-LGW some time ago, but left the route quite quickly.

AA flew BOS-LGW back in the late-90s for a year or so on a 767-200ER. The route authority was previously held by NW and was dormant for a few years before AA picked it up. AA quietly dropped the LGW flight in favour of consolidating BOS ops at LHR. The route then was passed on to Delta who also couldn't make it work. VS also moved to LHR. BOS just isn't an LGW airport.
