747-300 To Operate BNE-AKL-LAX

Mon Oct 03, 2005 12:20 am

BNE/AKL/LAX Aircraft changes during NOV 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To all those interested I HEAR Qantas are operating 747-300s during the month of November Brisbane-Auckland-Los Angeles. 743s will operate on SUN, WED and FRI while the 744 does the rest.

This is most likely due to the 2 Class 744s undergoing a Skybed upgrade

I do think that is the case , I believe that the 743's were operating the LAX routes earlier this year for the same reason.

Sweet! Always nice to see 743s still plying long-haul routes today...

Do you call SYD-NRT long haul? They still operate flights to Asia..

I'd still prefer a QF 744 to LAX.

Are they upgrading the 743's?

A question:

When did QF start flying the AKL-LAX direct? I know they used to fly the QF101/100 MEL-AKL-LAX but were there direct AKL-LAX services before that?

Cheers

I believe QF flew MEL-AKL-LAX prior to their delivery of 747-400ER's. Now that they have a MEL-LAX flight, they shifted the direct flight from MEL to BNE...even though there is a BNE-LAX nonstop. I think they should shift the BNE-AKL-LAX route to CNS-AKL-LAX.

I do believe those have already been upgraded

QF introduced the non-stop MEL-LAX flights with their normal 747-400s after United introduced the same service earlier. Both had to take decent weight restrictions. With the introduction of the 747-400ER, QF was able to undercut UA and forced them off the non-stop

If you mean to Skybed configurations, not so. I haven't seen anything on the QF site lately about any upgrade. I guess we are waiting on the next QF fleet order to see what happens. It seems pretty likely and quell the endless speculation on the forum.

I travelled on a QF 743 last December to NRT from SYD and it was still in its Dreamtime J configuration.

I'm not so sure that a CNS-AKL warrants a daily service. I mean NZ barely operates there twice a week (once a week at one stage). Of course I checked the timetable ages ago and it could have changed in the interim.

Someone could be quite mental and go PER-AKL-LAX. Actually I can recall that QF operated a SYD-AKL-LAX sort a service with 767 or 737 connecting to a 744 in AKL. I know it wouldn't happen but hey lets experiment!

Cheers

The B743s apparantly are not getting skybed upgrades, but have gotten the old B744 style seats upgrade.

I'd still prefer a QF 744 to LAX.

But nothing bets a classic operating the route thou.

QF have operated AKL-LAX for as long as I can remember, in other words for ages

Not exactly sure. I think it was around 1990 when they first got the 744's. I think it may have originated in SYD at first.

I believe MEL-AKL-LAX started in 1994.

Yeah good to see the 743's a bit more on this run for a while! LAX-AKL can be a bit of a push if head winds are strong! Atleast Y has the new interiors! No Skybeds in J!
