Flights Connecting Carribean Islands And Mexico?

Mon Oct 03, 2005 2:41 am

Hello.

I am planning journey to Mexico this winter and maybe would want to visit some Carribean island also, if it is possible. It however seems to be easy to fly to Carribean islands from USA or Canada, however not that easy with Mexico-Carribean service. Could you tell me which airlines operate such services? How many times a week they are operated? To which islands? I know it is possible to fly via Miami, but US transit visa might be quite difficult to get.

Also information about flights from Mexico to countries in northern South America (Suriname, Guyana, French Guiana) would interest me.

Thanks in advance

The only scheduled flights between Mexico and the Caribbean are Mexicana, Cubana, and Aeromar flights connecting Merida, Mexico City, and Cancun with Havana. That's it. Otherwise, connecting via Miami is the absolute quickest way to get there, although you may have to get a Visa. You can also transit via Panama City or Caracas, but they have more limited choices of Caribbean islands to chose from.

There are no such flights.

You could try Copa Panama through PTY - they serve a couple islands in the carribean.

Copa Airlines flies to Mexico and offers a wide range of connections at Panama, including: Havana-Cuba, Santo Domingo-Dominican Republic, San Juan-Puerto Rico, San Andres-Colombia, Port Au Prince-Haiti, Kingston-Jamaica. Mexicana has flights to Havana Cuba. About Suriname and Guyana I know BWIA from Trinidad and Tobago covers those areas, but I am not familiar with their network (they fly to Miami).

If you fly through BOG, you will have the opportunity to connect to:

- AUA
- CUR
- PUJ
- HAV
- PMV

Though the choices are limited there are nice connections.

As already mentioned, MX and CU have numerous flights between MEX and HAV. Other than that, there is no non-stop service between MEX and the Caribbean. MX is planning to return to SJU from MEX via CUN or something like that, but I believe this new route will materialize only next year.

On the other hand, MX was flying some months ago to La Romana in the Dominican Republic, but very likely that was only during the summer months. Hopefully a MX insider can tell you if this service is still operational or not. Finally, AM was doing also during the summer season charter flights to San Andrés Isla in Colombia. Maybe they will continue during the winter.

If I were you, I would consider CM since that may give you the best fares and schedules.

Check your e-mail Sonic.
Next flights: MEX-LAX AM 738, LAX-PVG DL 77L, SHA-PEK CA 789, PEK-PVG CA A332, PVG-ORD MU 77W, ORD-MEX AM 738

The very limited selection of scheduled commercial Mexico - Caribbean flights are to Cuba only...
If you want to fly to the major islands: Cuba HAV, Haïti PAP/Dominican Republic SDQ, Jamaica KIN, Puerto Rico SJU, the Colombian Caribbean tourist destinations (ADZ and CTG) and CCS (for connections to the Eastern Caribbean Islands and The Guyanas) try COPA AIRLINES - CM. They even have an airpass. On the subject of CM to the Caribbean, I'm sorry to say that the PTY - PAP/KIN leaves a lot to be desired and it's only twice daily - but hopefully, oneday, it'll be daily.
I think Air Caribaes could take you from PAP or SDQ to CAY (and BEL Brazil) via PTP/FDM.
PBM you get via POS, CUR/AUA and MIA.
GEO you get via POS and MIA.
There are no direct Venezuela - Guyanas flights.
I don't work for COPA Airlines!
