Airplane Seats

Mon Oct 03, 2005 5:45 am

Does anyone out there know where I can get some seats that use to be in actual aircraft? I have been looking for awhile, and only found some on EBAY that were not that good.

Thanks

I think your best bet will be eBay. Anything 'airworthy' would be way too expensive and sold to an airline. Give eBay a chance.... I've seen some junk, but also some sweet deals. Last year they had some seats out of Legend's Air that were very SWEET..!!

I know I can get my hands on UA aircraft seats that are both new and old. What exactly do you want them for?

Hey, I was looking for seats a bit ago, and I started e-mailing all the airplane graveyards, and asked if they had seats that they were willing to sell. I found a site that would salvage whatever they could, like galleys, seats, cockpit items, and little odd's and ends that airplane enthusiast's might like. Sorry, I don't remember which graveyard it was, but I think it was one in Phoenix, because they mentioned some of the items being damaged by the heat and sun. Anyways, just email them, and maybe you will find some!

I recently bought a pair of DL 727 first class cloth/leather seats. I wanted leather first seats for a long time and finally found them at a good price. I ended up paying $605.00 with shipping. ($355 w/o).
I spent 10 hours taking them apart and cleaning them up. I made a base out of 2x4's so they'de be stable.
I really wanted these becuase I took a DL 727 flight back on March 03 ROC-ATL-ROC to get on a 727 . DL overbooked coach and I was bumped to first for the only time ever  Smile
Just keep looking on ebay. The place I got mine from listed another set a couple weeks later.

Since you live in Arkansas, you could contact the Memphis Group in Tennessee.
They are scrapping planes at KGWO.

I bought a set of four 747 seats on Ebay. They're in really good shape, too, with recline and tray tables, as well as the remote control for IFE. They were being refurbished by some place at SAT to go back into service, but the airline went bankrupt, and this guy needed to get rid of them, so I got them for about $350 including the $50 flat rate for shipping. Awesome!

PS: Can somebody tell me how much a pair of AA 777 Business Class seats would be?

I used to think I was an airplane nutcase, but after reading this thread, I realize that there may be some hope for me.

What the H_ll do you do with these airplane seats?  confused  Furnish your houses? If that is the case, you all need to go get a girlfriend or better yet, a wife.  duck  Airplane seats are disgusting in addition to being the worst designed and most uncomfortable furniture ever made. The worst part of flying is the seats; the last thing in an airplane I would want in my house.

Now, an engine converted into a coffee table would be cool. Slice off the front 15" and place up with a round piece of glass on top.

I don't get it.

I used to have some at home I got from someone. 3-row Y class seats.

But it's true, I got rid of them a bit later as they were far from comfortable. I threw them away actually. These would be expensive now, ex swissair seats on an DC9!

I've got a pair of domestic F class seats from the first 741 in my van.
Mounted on seat tracks so they can either be set with nice pitch for adults or tight pitch for kids and cargo behind or remove the seat in two minutes and the van's converted to full cargo.

Perfect! I heard First Air (Canada) was looking for a replacement for their 737-200 combis!

Pah...

What you really need is an old aircraft lavatory in your home--as a working bathroom...complete with changing table and a dispenser of little individually wrapped old TWA or Pan Am Camay soap bars...damn those things make me think of my childhood...

 Wink

Well, the thought did occur to me a couple of times...but it always passed quickly...

Well, in my case anyway, they aren't necessarily meant to be sat on, but I'm 16, and have been in love with planes since before I knew how to say 'airplane.' My two rooms upstairs (bedroom and computer room) are themes on my two loves, Texas Longhorns and airplanes. They are more decorative than anything, but completely fit the mood. Such hostility is not necessary, however.

Does anyone know what happens to the seats once they are taken off of an aircraft like when it is retired and broken up? Or when the airline recives new seats and take out the old ones like in this case Iberia with their new business class what did they do with the old business class and first class?

I don't know what they look like or if there are any laying around but next time I'm over at UA i'll look through their piles of shit. I know that I can get carpet and other stuff like pillow and blankets with no ease whatsoever. Trying to get my hands on a cracked nosecone of a 737 that they're not going to fix though it's painted in the new c/s. We'll see though.

Thanks

I got a nice 3-pair from a VS 744 via eBay: http://community.webshots.com/album/441750694uqlTGW. I contacted VS and they are getting me a few replacement covers for the middle seat. How nice! D

Over on the VFlyer forum, someone managed to get into contact with VS about buying the J2000 (old UC seats). VS wanted about 2,000 pounds for them. (They could, after all, be used with a different airline since some seats only saw a few months' use.)

Sorry, no hostility meant, it is just perplexing, thats all. I could understand if you got two captains seats and an old flightdeck and centered them around your computer flight simulator.

Lognhornmaniac, can you post a picture of your shrine to airplanes including the 747 seats? I am curious to see how the airplanesand longhorn themes fit together.

Now, if you are really interested, I believe motoart does that. And even may have had a show revloving around their airline parts/furniture business. try motoart.com

no offense taken I'm sure, but try not to tease telling others to get a wife, eh?  Wink

I digress.

We bought our first home in Winter 2005. And being at the right place at the right time, and running it by my newlywed wife, I bought a pair of seats from Concorde Big grin In fact, they were teh first piece of furniture in the home.

The seats were fitted (just prior to 9/01) to G-BOAD but did not fly. So they were in the rare classification of being on a Concorde but never used by passengers. (therefore, they are in pristine condition.)

The seats were bought by BA for roughly 11000 GBP. I got them for a bit less  Wink

If you can get a nice piece, its certainly a conversation starter.

If you buy one with a ptv, how do you wire it up to the tv systems of the house? Is it easy?

A first class seat would be awesome for a small apartment and it could be used for resting, working, eating etc. I'm sure it would come into use in any single person's life.. Lie flat beds would also come in handy.. Maybe someone could start up a business like the "honeycomb" suites in Japan but instead of those beds have a seat that reclines into a bed with a table and tv.. Oh the possibilities are endless!
It's all about the destination AND the journey.

Oh man if only I could just sever off the cockpit from a triple 7 and hook it up to my computer. I can dream can't I? I will do what I can, they are separate rooms, and are in the process of having some finishing touches of remodelling done. I have a display case full of my scale, die cast metal models, as well as some other valued items (cough Barry Bonds autograph), and as ashamed as I am to admit it, living in Austin "Governor" Bush's autograph, as well as UT football and basketball players, and Tom Landry. As soon as I get all my pictures framed and hung, and my case moved back against the wall (had to move it out to have them put the chair rail in, and row of cork, which I hope to one day fill with all my old boarding passes, and safety cards) and maybe one day decide to clean the room, than I will certainly take pictures for you and try to get em uploaded. I need to hang some stuff in my bedroom, like old UT jerseys and more autographed posters and things (by Dick Vitale and Vince Young) and make my bed, I'll sure try. Target has been out of these damn picture frames for a month, seemingly, and I just need like 4 more to get my row of AA's fleet hanging ( I do like United too  Wink but needless to say, AA's hubs are more convenient to me, and I fly them more) and the rest of my favorite A net pictures. I'll let ya know.  Smile
