Notre Dame Travels

Mon Oct 03, 2005 7:42 am

Notre Dame travelled to West Lafayette, IN yesterday to beat Purdue in NCAA football action. Notre Dame plays Purdue, Michigan State and Michigan every year, ever other year it is an away game. West Lafayette and East Lansing and Ann Arbor, MI are really not that far away from South Bend, IN. Does Notre Dame charter flights to these away games or do they bus it to those sites?

The last I knew they use buses to get to those games. Recall seeing the team buses on the highway one Saturday a couple of years ago.

When the Notre Dame Football team does fly to away games, what airline do they use and what equipment do they use? I'm sure they use SBN when they fly out.

According to the College Football Charter thread College Football Charter Thread (by USAFHummer Sep 4 2005 in Civil Aviation)
they have used an NW 757-200 for at least one game...the thread has since been archived since I was busy the past few weekends, but I'll be happy to start it up again if there is enough interest?

the football team did use ground transportation for the michigan, michigan state, and purdue games. they struck a deal over the summer with northwest to operate B752's for the season. up through last year, they used delta.

- Do the airlines consider it a "Feather in the Hat" to charter premier NCAA teams and professional teams around the country or is it a pain for them to operate those flights (like crew scheduling and the like)?

Actually, it is both a "feather in the cap" and a very nice source of income.
