New Seats For United (Rumor)

Tue Oct 04, 2005 7:00 am

Hello all,

Was called by a family member at SFO for UA and he said that it appears as though United is putting all new seats in their domestic aircraft. The new F is very similar to the current seat though is very modern looking. He also said that he overheard a few guys saying that the PS F seats will become standard on all United widebodies. As for coach, they look sorta funkie. Very pastic-like arm rests. Similar to WN.

The only area that he was not very sure about was Business. While I like United's current business product, it is VERY outdated and if they even feel like running with the rest of the pack, it will need to be updated.

I am personally glad to hear of this move as United has long been critisized for their current F, J, and Y product and having personally seen the current F product in MX, they're a bitch to maintain and even harder to replace yet extremely easy to break. As for J, I have flown their business product across the pond over to Asia and found it to be extemely nice service yet I could have sworn I threw my back out as the seat (or the one that I was sitting in)requires pressure to move (footrest) and a very old motor to power the seat...

If anyone here within United is able to confirm this rumor I would very much like it. If not take this as a pure rumor and nothing more.

Matt

Wow, sounds interesting, although did you mean that they are replacing First Suite with the Spacebeds? That sounds like a dumb move if you ask me, how would they ever compete agianst other airlines like AA, BA, LH to Europe and SQ, CX, QF to Asia? Maybe you meant Business. Also, does anyone have any photos?

Are they the same seats as WN? If you have a photo, could you post it?

UA does not really have a domestic business seat, other than ps. The rest of the business seats are international aircraft on repositioning flights.

If there will be new seats, they will probably not begin to be installed until after they clear bankruptcy because most capital expenses restricted. I do not think they would replace the First Suites because that would make them completely uncompetative on their international routes. Almost all of the 3-class widebodies are used on long haul international flights and most of the 2-class widebodies are used to Hawaii.

It would make sense that they would replace the First seats on the 3-class 763s with Spacebeds. Those seats are obsolete and many other Transatlantic carriers have some kind of lie-flat seat. They probably figure on having to use the 763s for a while as they will not be able to afford 787s anytime soon.

Sounds cool to me. Personally I enjoy UA's Y seats. The headrests along with the rest of the seat just does it for me. Especially after riding on the NWA.

That said, I was impressed with WN's new seats. Those were damn comfortable.

I like the F Suites on international. The only improvement could be a larger screen and a table that you can slide to get out of the seat. SQ has a GREAT table and monitor!

I like UA's international Businesss seat. I have used LH and SQ new flat beds, and they are not as good as UA's present C. What I like about UA's C is that you can adjust the back and the leg rest independentlly of each other. LH and SQ are too "rigid", you can not adjust the back and leg levels independent of each other. UA could use a bigger monitor in C.
