Unhappy Coincidence

Tue Oct 04, 2005 9:18 am

I have just been watching "Concorde: Airport '79" on DVD and noticed that the plane used in the movie was F-BTSC; the Concorde that crashed after takeoff from CDG five years ago.
That reminded me of another, more personal coincidence. I have photos on A.Net of 5 planes that have been involved in well known accidents; all but one of them incurring many fatalities.

Five pictures out of how many? Big grin

Random chance, that's all...

You're right of course. I don't know what the odds are for something like that. Actually it's 6 photos out of 1,600+ because I have 2 of HB-IWF taken at different times. There was one other that I didn't include because it was not well known. That was a DC-3 of Air North that crashed near YVR killing both crew members. Also my first ever flight on a B747 was in N736PA.

That's an extremely high rate when you compare it with regular chances of a flight crashing. Man, maybe you ARE a jinx :p

It's only once you build up a photo collection of regos do you actually realise how small the aviation world is in many respects I have a few 'writeoffs' as well, but it isn't too uncommon really.
