Blue Dart To Get 2 B757Fs And 757 In India

Tue Oct 04, 2005 12:57 pm

One for our Indian members. A few questions if I may please

I saw a press release from Blue Dart Aviation stating they will acquire 2 757Fs which they state will be the first time an Indian operator has used the 757 in any capacity.

Is this true? No 757s have been operated by an Indian Carrier? IIRC AI ordered and then cancelled an order for 757s in 1985. Also where will Blue Dart get 2 757Fs? Will they be conversions or are some used Freighters available?

Thanks and regards

Blue Dart will be the first Indian Operator to use B757s. It was IC which had ordered the B757s and not AI.
An airplane might disappoint any pilot but it'll never surprise a good one.

Oops! Apologies for the error.

Indeed it is. These are for fleet expansion in addition to the 737Fs they operate.

With Cargo doing so Well in India. The Current B732SFs are not Adequate.Hence the need for 2-3 added B752SFs to replace Two of the Five Existing B732SFs.
Since DHL takeover of BlueDart.Although the Aviation wing still remains under local Mgmt [GOI FDI policies].
The Advantage of Blue Dart is there Ground Network, lack of competition & unlike the LCCs offering cheaper fares.Cargo & Couriour prices have not dropped. So BDA Can afford to Pay very Well.[the best in the country].

Thats true Although IC was considering the B752 once, but settled for the A320s.The B757s have never been operated by an Indian operator before.
The Only B757 operators to India recently have been Ethiopean B752 & B752PFs & earlier the Royal Nepal B752C.

If its from DHL they would be readymade freighters, else Conversion would need to be done. The B732s were Pax converted too.Mostly the Former.

Have heard they have already been leased in as freighters and are being
used by other DHL companies until Blue Dart gets their certificate up
to snuff.

Another benefit Blue Dart has their own x ray so the freight does not need
24 hour cooling off period.

I cannot link to the newswire I use as it's subscription only. A Google search has this article.

Thanks for the update. Seems India is like Australia when it comes to the 757. A rare bird in domestic service and on the register. But after a long wait India is finally getting a few. Good for the local scene!
