Complimentary Playing Cards.

Wed Oct 05, 2005 7:28 am

When I was younger, I remember that various airlines would hand out free decks of playing card with their logo on it. Does anyone know if any airlines still hand out free playing cards?

Hawaiian Airlines has 24 Decks of cards to give out on every Trans Pacific and South Pacific flight but most people don't think airlines give out cards anymore so nobody ever asks us for cards. Just ask your flight attendant, and you shall receive.

I got some a couple of years back while boarding after lengthy delays from Srilankan at Bandaranaike as compensation, I think you could have a gift box of tea or some cards  Smile. Usually you can buy them at the gift shops .

TG, SQ, MH do still as far as I know. BR and EK in J. BA, LH, AF, RA used to, not sure if they still do. Other than that I'm not sure. Being the compulsive gambler that I am I always have a deck of Bicycles on me anyway.

We at CO gave them out for free on international flights until earlier this year. Cost Cutting. They had to go.

I have a deck of AF cards. I got them CVG-CDG in '01. They're a good, quality deck of cards, too.

American used to give out comp playing cards some time ago. Don't know whether they still do or not. I have about a dozen just from AA alone. If you're into collecting any airline's playing cards, check out E-bay. I can guarantee you that they list hundreds of them for sale on any given day.
Regards.

IIRC, they came in red and blue with either silver or gold trim, and they featured a DC3 on the reverse. Or was it another plane?

American had playing cards that featured the DeHaviland DH-4, the Ford Tri-Motor & the Douglas DC-3, along with the various AA eagle logos over the years. I have one deck of cards whose box is like felt-lined on the outside.
It's interesting to watch (for yours truly anyway) how American's playing cards have changed over the years. The older decks are of better quality card stock while the newer ones are rather filmsy. Regards.

Do the airlines that don't hand them out anymore (like CO) still have them onboard for sale? Or are they gone alltogether?

Qauntas

Ooooh Major faux pas! It is QANTAS, an acronym. Therefore, no U.

I have decks from quite a few airlines that are no longer with us. I have old sets from AA, UA, DL, US, HP, KL, AF, MH, and SW. I also have from airlines no longer with us: PA, EA, WA and PI
