Old Sectional Aeronautical Charts

Wed Oct 05, 2005 8:40 am

Does anyone know of a website or source for older sectional charts? I want to do a study on the cartographic changes of these charts and it is seemingly a challenge to scare up anything on the Internet.

Thanks!

There's a website that archives abandoned & little-known airfields from all over the US. While this site does not specifically archive the charts themselves, it does utilize many images from older charts in its articles, and IIRC, the charts may date back as far as the 1930s. The website can be found here:

PS - Aside from using this site to study cartographic changes, it is actually quite informative and entertaining if you use the site for its purpose. In my county alone, I've been informed of no less than 4 airfields that once existed, which have since been developed over.

Cheers!

Try calling up a local pilot shop... Whenever the current charts are out of date, they might be willing to give you one considering they probably just throw them away anyway

Thanks guys! I don't want to take your charts away from you, is there any way you can copy them -- realize they are large. I'll private email you both to think about possibilities.

Got told that the National Archives in DC has them all, but you have to go there, file requests, yadda, yadda...
