Very Short Transit Time At LAX!

Wed Oct 05, 2005 6:41 pm

This is for our LAX aviation and airport experts. I'm in the process of making a reservation with AA. Here is the situation:

I'll be leaving FAT with American Eagle at 6:58 AM to LAX were I'll get there at 8:12 AM. Then I'll have at 8:57 AM my next flight from LAX to MIA. My two questions are:

1 - At FAT can I already make my full check-in all way to MIA and get also my boarding pass from LAX to MIA?
2 - Has you can see my transit time at LAX are a mere 45 minutes, is that enough time to leave the arrival area and get to the departure area and get my next flight?

I didn't make the reservation due to that very short transit. I went to LAX airport home page and saw the area that AA use, Terminal 4 and they have 10 gates, so it looks that it's not to far to get in my next flight but I have no idea.
Anyway it would be great to get your feedback!

CV, that's a tough one I'd say. For one thing, the American Eagle terminal is not connected to the main AA Terminal (T4). It's a little shack between the two runways and you have to take a bus to get there. If you were actually to arrive at 8:12am then I am 100% sure that you could get to T4 by 8:57, that would be no problem. But what time do they close boarding? Also I would suspect that your bags woudln't make it.

To give you an example I booked a trip on AA NAS-FLL-LAX and my NAS-FLL flight was so late that I only had about 1/2 an hour at FLL. The AT7 from NAS parked two gates down from the 757 to LAX and so I made it onto to the plane just fine...but my bag didn't!

I would say that if AA is allowing you to book this on their website then it should be alright, especially since your connecting flight is also with them. Though I'm not 100% sure that your bags will make it.
