Air Sahara Firms Up US Landing Strategy

Thu Oct 06, 2005 12:44 am

As per Indian Express, Air Sahara filed an application on Oct 3 with US DOT to code share with AA on their ORD-DEL, BOS-LHR, and JFK-LHR flights. Approval is expected shortly.
Does anyone know if Air Sahara's DEL-LHR flight will have good connectivity to AA's LHR-BOS, and LHR-JFK, both ways.

I understand their DEL-LHR service was to begin in winter. Googling, I found the following:

Answering a question, Mr Dutta said that the Sahara airlines would compete aggressively with the British Airways and other airlines on its routes, but complement British Airways on other routes.

He said Sahara would launch its flights to London this winter and has got seven slots at Heathrow. It would add frequencies next summer.

American application to DOT for code share with S2

Looks like AA wants to put its code on DEL-LHR S2 flight in future.

here you go!! not really a recent news.

"Sahara gets slot at Heathrow
TIMES NEWS NETWORK, SUNDAY, JUNE 26, 2005

NEW DELHI: Air Sahara claimed a major victory in its quest for expanding overseas operations by bagging a daily landing slot at London Heathrow airport. This will help it mount a daily flight between Delhi and London from the winter of 2005.

Sources said that Airports Co-ordination Ltd - the company in-charge of managing airport slots in several European airports - awarded Sahara a daily slot at Heathrow. Air Sahara spokesperson confirmed the development saying: "Air Sahara was awarded the Heathrow slots last weekend in Berlin."

Sahara is preparing to start direct flights from Delhi to London this winter, and has signed a deal to lease three Boeing 777-200ER (extended range) planes."

Wonder why haven't they included AA's LAX-LHR too in their code share? Would have covered west coast too.

AA probably wants to feed DEL bound west coast passengers through ORD-DEL non stop and not through LHR-DEL with S2.

Speaking of Indian carriers and the US, whatever happened to the Jet Airways application to fly to the United States?

I have no clue, I think S2 has no clue either. I still think they operate in the 'Planes made on trees' philosophy.

Once that lawsuit gets out of the way, they'll start their BOM-BRU-EWR service. Poor guys, leased three 340's and can only end up using two.

I heard (rumor) that in mean time (until they get clearance from US DOT) 9W will start 3x weekly BOM-BRU-BOM! Is there a market on this route?

I think S2's best bet is to get bought out by a more professional airline. Having people like Subrata (whatever his full name is) associated with the airline (actually owning the airline?) is (IMHO) a sure sign it's doomed.

Has anyone seen the circus associated with "his majesty's" sons weddings? God, that was disgusting!

Guess what, I was actually there for the second one. It was a circus all right. But then again, it must be great having an airline to fly all your guests in. Amausi Airport has never seen such traffic, and I guess never will see such traffic for some time to come.

Did it take much counselling to get over the trauma  Smile. I guess being there in person might not have been too bad - I'm sure the F&B would be great, and the chance to hob-nob with all the pretty girls in India. So long as you did not have to meet and socialize with the family itself. Or are these people decent in person?
