Dubai Airports Crackdown On Oversized Baggage

Thu Oct 06, 2005 4:06 pm

This was inevitable:

Everytime I travel out of Dubai or towards Dubai, there are passengers with huge bags that are full of everything... weighing upto 50 KG in times. Then you get that passenger asking if he can put some of the stuff with you to avoid paying extra!!! WHAT!!!! Didn't you forget the security question:

"Did you pack your own bag? Are you carrying anything for someone else?"

Dunno how it is in other parts of the world though? Enlighten me people!

Thanks

This is a good thing for DXB and all airline operating out of it, and all the connecting flights.

It will decrease the injuries, claims for damage bags, lost bag and everything. Lower fuel cost. Refusal of the bags due to lack of space.... so on and on
I hope that more will follow.
I really like this idea of the 50pounds bags that some carrier are adopting.

I travelled with excess pieces before moving from PAR to LAX but i was ready to pay. It will surely cut down the time we argue with pax about overweight charges and so on.
The price of ticket are low but the rules about the bags have not change.
Less weight less fuel. You want more, you pay! makes perfect sense.

Good God, it's about time!!!

LGW and LHR have major problems with oversize transfer bags from EK to other carriers there, and it was reaching a crisis situation.

What they don't mention in that article was that many of the vendors in the UK were refusing to even move EK's bags, letting them sit. That got their attention pretty quick and the fire spread from there.

Its an issue for all their European destinations. EU legislation means bags cannot be over 32kgs for health and safety reasons. EU airports would be within their rights to refuse to unload the oversized bags.
