NRT 2nd RWY To Be Lengthened

Thu Oct 06, 2005 9:05 pm

NAA released a statement that the 2nd shorter runway will be lengthened from 2,180m to 2,500m. Runway will be lengthened 320m to the north. Additional taxiways will be built around unpurchased land on the south-side. I wish I could post the layout, but there's nothing like this anywhere in the world. The objective is to have the runway in use in 2009.

This will allow yearly movements to increase from 65,000 to 100,000 on that runway with the same number expected to be maintained for the longer runway. With the runway lengthened, all types of aircraft can be operated. Currently, the maximum size aircraft allowed onto the runway is 772/343-class and below.

This will definitely open up possibilities to additional carriers.

You can see the current situation on Google Earth. Carpethead, if you wish to publish a pic there are many free ways of doing so, or is that not the problem?

Oh have they been able to buy up that land and kick the poor guy out of his hut?

"poor guy" lives on the south end. Poor guy could have been a very rich guy by now, so if the guy is poor then it is by his own free will (and much to the enormous annoyance of everyone else)

Well, its more about the principle of the thing, if he has a legal right ot that property and the Japanese laws can't do anything about it, I think its nobel to stick by what you believe....and in this case, his right to his land
Roger that, turning to our "other" left

They'll have to go thru this all over again with the third cross runway. Not sure why they are building it bit by bit rather than waiting for all the land to be secured. Hope this is a lesson for anyone wishing to expand - safeguard your land!

So what, are they building a taxiway around his hut or something?

you're certainly not very friendly.

but practically yes, they build the bits on land they have already bought. taxiways surrounding the outstanding plots on all sides, in anticipation the guy will give up and move. not a thing a resposible business will do. And maintaining the built concrete costs a lot of money with no end in sight of when the dispute will end. someone reminds me how long this thing has dragged on?

That's why we have eminent domain in this country. Go USA!. Just kidding. I find the whole thing rather comical to be honest. Kudos to the "poor guy" for standing up in what he believes in.

I'm not sure why I deserved that, I was only asking a question...

You know, I might be horribly mistaken but aren't there already some txwys right next to a house or something? The aircraft that I was on always taxied via S4 gateway and there seems to be a hut right there. And the building looks new too. Only thing is, I never saw any lights on (its above the tunnel thing that connects NRT-and the highway [yes I know its confusing].
