New Japanese Charters to Edmonton This Winter

September 30, 2005

Travel Alberta is pleased to announce that, in partnership with Edmonton Tourism and Edmonton Airports, it has successfully negotiated two direct charter flights to Edmonton this winter.

Operated by All Nippon Airways (ANA) and marketed by Kinki Nippon Tourist Alliance Group (KNT), the charters will depart Japan, Feb. 11 and Feb. 15, 2006. The charters will operate Boeing 747-400 aircraft with 300 seats each. KNT will be selling five-day packages including visits to attractions in Edmonton and area, as well Fort McMurray and northern Alberta where visitors will experience Alberta’s famous northern lights.

“This is great news for Edmonton and Alberta,” said Clint Dunford, Minister of Alberta Economic Development and minister responsible for tourism. “These charters are another indication that tourism from Alberta’s international markets is rebounding.”

“Air access is critical to growing visitation from Japan and we are delighted to again be working with KNT and ANA to show more Japanese visitors all that Alberta has to offer this winter,” said Derek Coke-Kerr, managing director of Travel Alberta. “These flights will help accelerate recovery of Japanese visitation to peak levels experienced in 2001.”

Japan is Alberta’s fourth largest international tourism market, generating 45,000 visitors in 2003 who spent a total of $43 million in Alberta.

Industry-led, market-driven and research-based, Travel Alberta is the tourism marketing organization for the province of Alberta.

Anyone know if YYC will be getting the ANA charters this year as well?
