Sanata Barbara To Get B767 Within 40 Days

Sun Oct 09, 2005 11:05 am

I was just watching "Noticias Globovision" and they had Francisco Gonzalez (President or so Of Santa Barbara) and he was talking about the incident yesterday about the DC-10 engine exploding 3 hours into flight from CCS....and we'll he said since there have been a lot of problems ately with the aircraft they would acquire the B767 within 40 days or so

Anyone know if there are still regularly schedule flights to MAD or have they stopped until they get the boeings?

Totally agreed with you Luis. See it to believe it. I knew it they had to wait for an accident to make the move. Does anybody got hurt? Or do they just landed without any problems?

Same here.

So, Francisco Gonzalez is finally admitting those DC-10s are in bad conditions. I can't believe a few days ago he said exactly the opposite. What an idiot.

What should probably happen here, is that the government realizes the importance of an international airline in it's country. Sorry Mr. Chavez, but this is not Conviasa, as they don't have the infrastructure nor the experience. The answer can only be, that the government gives special tax conditions to Santa Barbara Airlines in order to allow them , to conduct the maintenance on the actual fleet and renew it in a second stage.

Unfortunately I doubt that the responsible persons in local politics will realize the importance of this problem and it's influence in the local economy.

Really - I would say this is suspicious...

How long has Santa Barbara been operating the '-10s'? They never had a problem before, as I can recall - but now they are struck with problems, literally EVERY WEEK.

I think this might be Chavez' attempt to take out a competitor without making CONVIASA sweaty - and I think it's lame.

Sorry, rant off.

Cheers! wave

I count the days for the first B767  Smile

Would it be B767-200 or -300? At the moment there is only one "free" B767-300, it could be great if S3 take this aircraft.

Is there not a problem in Venezuela that the government take over (unfriendly) private enterprises? I heard some things about "Heinz" (Food) and "Polar" (Beer)... So Chavez could take over S3 and integrate this airline in his own Conviasa.

The parked RG 767 ? They have quite good relations to RG as they took over two DC10 from them.

Oooh, don't remember me of that ! It was a Heinz Tomato processing plant, a Polar corn flour plant and a Parmalat (I think milkpowder) plant. Apart of that they are taking away some fincas from their private owners as they are unused.

This fact is the main negative point preventing foreign companies to invest in Venezuela and preventing venezuelan companies to invest in modernization and/or expansion as they are afraid they could loose is.

And, I am very very very sure the point you mentioned is a serious one and I kindly ask you not to bring this point to Mr. Chavez. I hope he doesn't read this forum.
An integration of "bad working" airlines into Conviasa (or the other way round, renaming the "old" airline) is very well a serious option that -from his point of view - would solve a lot of things:
- Conviasa had the structure to operate to Europe right away
- Conviasa would get the infrastructure (GDS, maintenance...etc.)
- a competitor would disappear
- and I am sure lots of other things

But if he wants to merge an existing airline into Conviasa I would say Aeropostal is more in danger as they have the better regional network. But maybe all airlines are in danger..?

Who knows. Time will tell.

Wow, that would be such a dirty move by the government. Hope they don't even think about it.

I'm posting what I just did in the other thread regarding S3's incident:

Quoting Luisde8cd (Reply 19):
What it says is that flights to Europe have been cancelled until the "new" B767s arrive. They expect the suspension of flights to last 2 weeks.

Well, Luis is right.

I just went to Santa Barbara's site and in its 'News' area they published this:

http://www.santabarbaraairlines.com/noticias.asp

Traduced from the Spanish, what it says is:
"Santa Barbara Airlines has taken the decision of accelerating the change of its current fleet of DC-10s for 767s on their routes to TFN and MAD...
While we go through this change, we'll make a response plan to keep covering the service. This implies the "lease" of airplanes to satisfy passenger's demands.
We are sorry for any inconvenience caused in the last days"
---

So, this is not the first time I hear this officialy. BA747 told me recently that he went to Santa Barbara to apply for a job, and he had some time to talk to the manager, and he said that their 767 plan was going well. The only problem they had is that they'd have to use the airplanes just as they use their 757, with pilots from the airline who leased them. (757s are being piloted by Primaris crew).

I think this DC-10 situation wasn't bad at all. It seems that it made S3's administration change their minds fast and finally, we can see some change.

Let's see what happens in a couple of days... What are they going to use between the gap of acquiring the 767s?

Saludos!

If the B-767-300ERs (or any other airplane type) get the same maintenance treatment the DC-10-30s got, how long will the B-767s last?

Not for Long that`s for sure!  Sad poor 767`s and DC-10`s, They both are great aircraft and deserve "BETTER" maintenance!!! I mean NW manages to keep DC-10`s "Airworthy" so Santa Barbara should manage aswell.

Anyone knows how S3 DC10s interiors look? If there is so much debate about their maintenance I am very curious to know how they are (were) inside...very old? Looked "recycled"???? Anyone got any S3 DC10s cabin pictures?

But is this aircraft ETOPS qualified? And is S3 in a position to apply for it? Easier said than done, I think.

According to El Universal ( http://www.eud.com/2005/10/10/eco_art_10206A.shtml , sorry but is in spanish) those B767's will be with Santa Barbara Airlines between 90 and 120 days.

Hey PRAirbus I´m sorry I can´t supply you with interior pictures of S3 DC-10. But I have a lot of friends that have travel with them, and they say it´s so funny to see a carnival of trolleys from all the airlines that had those planes before. For example: RG,VA,VE. Instead of being marked with Santa Barbara name on it, all the meals and drinks trolleys still have the names of the three airlines I mentioned before. Same with the placard on safety information: In 3 languages: Spanish, English and Portuguese.

That´s all I can tell you about it.

Cheers
