Something Unusual On The Seatbacks Of This AC 763

Tue Oct 11, 2005 1:31 pm

While looking in the database, I came across this cabin shot of an AC 763. I believe GHLT to be one of the newest 763 in AC's fleet (delivered 2001), also judging by the seats (old style but with the adjustable headrests) but I could be wrong. Now what's odd in that picture is the little white sticker on the seatbacks. I was wondering what it was considering that you can also see the "life jacket under your seat/fasten your seatbelt while seated" on the tray tables so it can't be that.

Now, AC was suppose to start refurbusing the 763 and installing the new PTVs in fall of this year, so could this be a note that it is coming? Because I don't see what else it could be.

"Stow and latch bassinet for taxi, takeoff and landing". The same is repeated in French below.

I am not entirely sure why they would put that on every seatback; my sense is that they may have a rule against baby bassinet (hand carried type) taken on board and used during taxi, takeoff and landing. This usually is not the case unless the mother has purchased a seat for the baby. It seems a little odd, since babies are far safer in airline approved bassinets which are belted into the seat than the baby simply belted into the seat.

Maybe someone from AC on this forum can answer this question.

AC used to have airphones installed on most of the seat backs in that very position on some of their B767's. It could very well be that they have removed them and to cover the holes put in a cover with the instructions on them. I called my dad once as I was flying over Greenland just to let him know that I had made the flight, because I missed my cnx the previous day coming out of AMS and was rebooked through LHR to YVR, stupid call cost me $75!

Makes very little sense to me.
There can be alot of required placards that seem to have little safety value, but these appear to have none.
Those placards are for the bulkhead mounted bassinets.
Maybe they had to cover the phone hole with something and the had a box of placards sitting in stores.

Lol I've done something like that before. I was on a NW from DTW-SFO and I called my parents just to tell them that everything was all good and we had made the conection. Of course when I got the bill it was like a $50 phone call. Lesson learned: Don't ever call someone from 35,000 feet!

Or it could just be a mis-print with bassinet probably referring to the tray tables. Since they have one at every seat, and you are supposed to "stow and latch" your tray tables for taxi, takeoff, and landing, it seems very plausible. If it were for bulkheads, they wouldn't have had so many signs made.

I believe (i zoomed in on the photo), that it says "Stow and latch HANDSET for taxi, takeoff, and landing"
Might have to do with the former airphones...

My .02 cents,
