Hey a.netters, I would like you to view this link by the local newspaper here in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas.

I just wanted to know if you guys could elaborate more on this topic on how the wright Amend. could affect many small or mid-size city airports on behalf of AA.

There is already a discussion on this very topic American Puts Out Report On The Wrong Amendment (by KarlB737 Oct 10 2005 in Civil Aviation)
Honestly--I think its more propagAAnda. Even if they cut back say to MFE--you'd see WN or CO step up to fill the void.

Its just scare tactics to avoid the repealing of the WA. Im so sick of hearding about it I dont even care anymore, but at the very least i think they should allow throughnticketign like LGA/DCA

AA and WN are playing some good ole Texas Hold'em and its time to call AA's bluff.

So what your trying to say drerx, WN would step up at MFE, that be great for HRL, and not good for MFE.

Just because Southwest wants to serve more larger cities from DAL, it's going to cost all these small cites and mid size cities, this is just boggus!

(I know this has been discussed before, but I'm barely finding out, just bear with me guys)

AA will not reduce service in markets in which they have a stranglehold, have corporate contracts, or have no direct competition unless those routes are losing money. If MFE is profitable, it will not be dropped.

The article quotes a study already being discussed on the board. At the end of the study it states in very small print that the scenario discussed is just one of many possibilities. They used this particular possibility to try to scare Congress and the public into coming out against the repeal.

Well--this is far from a certainty anyway. AA is just bluffing to scare communities into backing the Wrong AAmendment. My guess is AA won't be cutting back at those stations--if they did--SAT and AUS wouldn't be affected because they are larger markets.

How about in your opinions , do you think this will go through? aside from trying to scare these communities.

I think that the amendement should/will be repealed--its anti-constitutional. AA will probably start a few point to point flights from Love Field but that'll be the extent of it. Carriers could have been serving Love with RJs--they tried and for the most part failed. CO sees some success by using RJs to Love from IAH-especially since they can sell through tickets connecting at IAH--which WN can't do. Once the smoke clears you'll see a coexistence like IAH and HOU.

The Wright A is going to the trash bin. It's not an "if" but a "when".

That said, a gradual phase out over 5 years would prevent any doomsday scenario that American is foretelling.
