Cintra News

Thu Oct 13, 2005 1:32 am

Just read on "El Norte" (MTY newspaper, part of Grupo Reforma):

IBERIA

It saids that IB has retired on the race for AM or MX, and now Grupo Ángeles, Grupo México, Xtra, Grupo Posadas and Air Europa are the ones bidding for MX and AM, this is getting more and more interesting.

Cheers

Not to contradict, but I doubt it. Its clear that Iberia isn't happy with only the 25%, their management said last month, "con solo el 25% teneremos las manos atadas". They want more than the 25% that Mexican law allows foreigners, but they'll take whatever they can. My guess, Iberia gets Mexicana.

There have been reports about the unions getting between 5 and 10 percent of the stock of each group and there have also been reports that they will get a special class of shares that will entitle them to dividends and all but would subject their voting rights to the achievement of certain financial and operational goals.

I believe too that IB's reason for leaving the bidding process has to do with the foreign investment restriction as they had already mentioned that they were unhappy with the 25% cap and were hoping for the restriction to be removed.

Will be interesting to see who gets each group. As mentioned, 5 consortiums are interested in MX and 4 in AM. In my opinion, whichever consortium has Grupo México on board should get one carrier as they are really interested in exploiting the cargo possibilities.
Next flights: MEX-LAX AM 738, LAX-PVG DL 77L, SHA-PEK CA 789, PEK-PVG CA A332, PVG-ORD MU 77W, ORD-MEX AM 738

The number of groups interested in AM or MX keep going down. It has also been said in the news that some of the groups are only there to help increase the price by submitting a bid.

By the way, today it was announced that the Aleman family was interested in one of CINTRA carriers, but later decided to invest their money in a new airline. According to Reforma newspaper, the new company of the Aleman family, INTERJET, will start selling tickets on Sunday, October 15 for the following routes: TLC-CUN, TLC-GDL, TLC-MTY AND GDL-MTY. Three A320's should arrive next month to start operations!!

Things are hot in the mexican airlines industry, since more airlines keep starting and AM and MX are still waiting to see what will happen to them in the near future!!

Hopefully they start exploiting cargo as they shoud! Easily, mexican carriers could have a decent fleet of at least 10 B744Fs.

IB has been more worried on that issue and trying to acquire Vueling lately, but from what some famous IB pilots and a.net photogs have told me recently is that the Pilots union won't let IB buy Vueling... and they will also block a new LCC start-up unless pilots get what they want at IB and this new LCC.

Maybe we should look elswere as to were our tax money goes or doesnt go instead of always mentioning how with your taxes you support and mantain the airlines and my wage. You obviously got something against federal funded divisions within the government that are part of the country and it's national sovergenty. There are many branches amongs our government that you also support and pay for with your tax money, look at the corruption within those also, im sure your paycheck is not hurting cause of this stock, so don't make a big deal about it and be proud that a union is gaining somethig for employees cause little by little employees around the world will be down to nothing, going backwards instead of forward, but maybe i'm talking to the wrong person.

By the way Ghost whats the lates on the A330/40's at MX?

Let me go into the future( short term).
Group Angeles is almost catched to AM and the rest(Posadas,Saba,GM Mexico, and Davila)should prepare for an alliance to go for MX.
Something wrong is in the air today. Groups are upset about CINTRA determination to offer shares to the unions.
Offer to ASPA was due to avoid pilots to stay inside the process...but, Offers to flight attendants and ground union is today, a headache to investors. (Rumors said very close to the limit, almost to withdraw from the process )
Next week is crucial.
My point of view... ....CINTRA, Made a false step...very Close to fatal consequences.

How will the new airlines being set up in Mexico effect the domestic market? Do you believe the new carriers will bring affordable air travel to more Mexicans or will they siphon business from AeroMexico, Mexicana and Aviacsa? If they siphon more than they expand the market wouldn't it have a negative impact on the value of AeroMexico and Mexicana? How much does the domestic market account for their sales? With no information to back this up I would assume both carriers get a significant amount of their revenues on flights between Mexico and the United States. Should some of the new carriers enter this market I can see where the values of the carriers maybe negatively impacted thus effecting the sale prices of AeroMexico and Mexicana. Not to change the subject any more news on GOL Mexico? When do they plan to begin service, equipment(I would assume 737NG's) and where will they be based?

Georgiabill

Aeromexico is the dominant domestic carrier in Mexico and
Mexicana depends more on the US-Mexico traffic of which
they are the dominant carrier.

It would be interesting to know how this would affect
either of the carriers.

I don't believe the new LCCs that are starting up will have
much impact because they will be operating at another airport which has no connectivity.

All of the International carriers arrive to the Mexico City International Airport and can connect to Aeromexico or Mexicana for their continuning passengers of which I undersand there are a lot.

The new LLCs will probably only get the point to point domestic Mexicana traffic without any connecting passengers.

I wish them all well as competition in good.

Good point navega, and one thing for example, MTY has a lot of connecting passengers (ask 6A), so point to point will benefit some few passengers, depending on the routes.

On some days, almost an entire MX or AM flight are connecting passengers from LH, IB, AF.

Flight attendants already signed their contract, ASPA is on strike call for their contract revision, next will be the ground union (SNTAS), this is for MX, not so sure about AM.

MX has taken the decision to reconfigure the B757s in order to introduce them in high demand routes inside of Mexico, Caribbean, Canada and South America. The B767 won't last forever, next December 06 lease will expire, so probably we will have a fleet renewal or a new A330 plan by mid-06.
