What Happened To This B738?

Thu Oct 13, 2005 2:35 am

Hey,

I was looking at the top list, and came across this:

I know it is a new door on the aircraft, but why is there a new door on the aircraft?

e.g. Incident, Maintenance, Age (doubt it) etc.

Thanks
Mike

That looks like a new door, or at least one thats been re-skinned. One possibilty is damage to the skin, or a jetway incident.

I think a Jetway incident is possible.

Ahh, that makes sense but does the door have to be replaced. Can't that be repaired?

Thanks

It can be repaired, but depending on the damage that the door incurred it could take several days of work to fix the door. The doors are interchangeable parts that can be swapped fairly quickly. It is not uncommon to lease a part for the duration of the time is takes to repair the airline owned one. We use to do this all the time with cowls, doors, flaps, etc when I worked for DL.

Great, thanks for clearing that theory up.

Although... does anyone know what EXACTLY happened?

Thanks

Depending on the Type & Extend of damage. To Avoid an AOG situation.Replacement is easier.

Didn't WN mechs once "5 finger discount" a set of flaps off an AA 733?
