United To Recall Pilots

Thu Oct 13, 2005 10:10 am

Finally some good news:

United to recall pilots: Things appear to be looking up for United. The carrier says it plans to recall about 300 pilots to fill an expanding flight schedule next year when it plans to exit Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The number of recalled pilots represents nearly a sixth of those remaining on furlough, The Associated Press reports, and would boost United's workforce of approximately 6,500 active pilots by about 5%.

Any news about US? AW is still taking airplanes so will US start to recall folks?

Thanks

United has actually already been recalling pilots for the last 10 months or so... Don't know how many, but I know they've been doing it.

I didn't know that if AW (Air Niger) was getting planes it meant US would be calling back pilots  Wink .. sorry.. you're lookin' for America West - HP.

Most of this is due to attrition, some additional flying is expected and could result in further hiring (according to The Denver Post).

While HP will be getting around 10 more busses, US alone will lose about 60 737s. However, there will be no furloughs due to the very senior US pilots and their retirements. With that said, once (or if) US gets the 190, it will be a mainline bird so I would expect some recalls. Of course, I don't see that happening until at least another year.

In actuality this is somewhat old news. UA had already been recalling pilots. The only new news was that UA put a figure out announcing that it anticipates to recall approximately 300 during 2006, with the years first group of 20 pilots slated for class January.
