He said that the proposal will now to go to the cabinet for approval.

Get ready for another round of approvals and quasi-approvals and approval-ettes. The saga goes on.

It'll e interesting to see what happens in the next month to month and a half. Curious to also see when theyy would receive their first 777. Guaging from 9W's first deliveries, I would guess that summer '07 would be first T7 deliveries. 787 deliveries are going to be a lot tougher though I'm going to venture a guess as say '10 - '11 time frame.

After cabinet approval what's the remaining steps before Boeing can actually put the order on their web site (other than negotiating pricing and delivery time frames)?

Slightly incorrect. AI has slots from Boeing and is something like a "priority customer"  Wink - i.e. for the future very important. It is part of the package.. T7s will come during 2006 end, and 787s, if I am not mistaken, before 2010  Smile

I didn't realize they had already reserved those delivery slots. Did AI put down deposits to secure thise early delivery slots?

Now someone else needs to verify what I say, because I am not at the source. But afaik the early slots are part of the response on AI's tender. AI says: "We need xxx aircraft for yyy purpose from the time of zzzz".. no modifications possible. Hence if B or A want to win the deal (which has a financial guarantee and is very lucrative), they need to get their act together to meed the requirements. Post-negotiations are rather about the package per se (detailed price etc), but the requirements of the tender have to be met in order not to be subject to disqualification - AI is govt owned and hence does not comply with all unwritten laws of the free market

SQ212.

many thanks for the link..! but no worries, this is irrelevant for AIs decision - in fact, this information was already available in July. India remains a sovereign nation and can decide in compliance with the issued tenders which aircraft they want. SO no worries here.. as long the CVC (Vigilance Commission) is not activated, this thing can proceed..  Wink

This gov't when it wants to, has the capacity to act. Just look at the how quickly the IC order moved, and that had been stuck alot longer then the AI order.

Now my personal preference would have been for an AIRBUS order, but AI needs new equipment and FAST. This order and the fleet entry will be good!

Boeing could be getting a nice Diwali present.

I don't know who the 20 are for but there will be another addition of 27 since AI just received approval!

Correct and the T7s aren't listed. I think those are another airline or lessor.

The AI RFP regarding the 787 was for 20 firm and 7 options. So the addition would be for 20 airframes, not 27 as the options are not listed on Boeing's website, just firm orders. When an airline eventually converts it's options to firm orders, Boeing has had a policy of stating it in their official press release as a conversion of options. To give you an example, on Oct. 5, Boeing issued a press release on the Ryanair purchase of 9 additional 737-800's. The press release read:

"SEATTLE, Oct. 5, 2005 – Boeing [NYSE: BA] and Ryanair, Europe's largest low-fare carrier, announced that the airline has ordered an additional nine new Next-Generation 737-800s, exercising options from a previous agreement. The deal is valued at upwards of $500 million at list prices. "

Hope this helps.

Quite true, and I believe these are an ADDITIONAL 20 from the 7 UFOs from last week. The order book for the 787 is quite impressive. As stated by many on this thread, we'll see the AI 787 listed once it's a signed order.

Huh? What does GWB have to do with this? The deal is between AI (the GOI) and Boeing, and not between India and the US? Or am I mistaken in my assumption, because Boeing is de facto supported by the GOP and receives subsidies and other aid?  devil

(or course it would be possible that a big delegation of industrialists joins GWB..  Wink - it was different with the IC airbus thing, since the delegation visited France)

and that is THE point... both governments are agents of their allegedly private-sector industries and embedding the success within their strategies.. - it's a shame that the West is so harsh on subsidies in the 3rd world in favor of their "market reforms" and blablabla.... q.e.d

Congratulations to AI. Is it more than a coincidence that PIB has cleared it on October 15th which happens to be the 73rd anniv. of AI.

Drinks are on me at the next Indian a.netters meet.

cheers.

I would like to see AI start flying into DFW. With the B-777-200LRs and the B-787-800s, they have the range. It is only 7642 nm going over the North Pole, according to Great Circle Mapper.

There is a very large Indian population here in the DFW Metroplex, as well as the Houston area.

I fully agree! I actually was in DEL when this happened and had to undergo the big punishment to listen to a lamenting French ambassador and lamenting people of the EU, saying: "Uhhh, this is such a corrupt country".. I said then leave and don't to business, and they all of a sudden rested in eternal silence..  Wink
