Is This The SQ Raffles I Couldn't Wait To Fly On:(

Fri Oct 14, 2005 4:07 pm

I have been very excited to finally book SQ for my MAA-SIN-SFO trip. I have been searching to see some pix for the 777 raffles class cabin and I have to tell you I'm very very disappointed. Take a look at this picture and decide for yourself. It sure looks different and way better on the SQ website. Could they have a completely different lay out for the SIN-SFO route? Maybe some SQ FF's can help me out and clear this matter. I appreciate the replies.

This must surely be the config. only on their regional B777s (e.g. SIN-KUL). I can't believe SQ would allow this for their medium/long haul premium product!

They actually don't look too dissimilar to the QR J class seats which I flew on from DOH-KUL last month (A300-600). I was also disappointed, but the aircraft on the return had the new tilted flat seats (which were actually quite uncomfortable - you feel like your constantly falling and having to climb).

I belive that is a domestic 777. This is an international cabin...

I asume that a SIN-SFO flight would be on an International version.

It's one of their B777's with the new biz class in SFO.

I'm hoping exactly the same I just checked the SQ website and it shows a completely different setup with the "spacebed"

SQ has installed the "lie flat" space beds on all intercontinental 744 and 777's. On aircraft dedicated to shorter regional flights, in line with most airlines, the J class seating is the traditional cradle seat.

I'd check their website www.singaporeair.com.sg to see the various seat configurations that are available. Any questions as to what type of seat you'll have, call either your travel booker or SQ direct. They'll be happy to help.

SIN-SFO will be Spacebed equipped on both the SQ1/2 744 flights and the SQ15/16 772 flights. The 777 service to MAA will not be Spacebed equipped - you should get the "Ultimo Plus" seat

Question: What's a new business class lie-flat seat called when you only partially recline it?

Answer: A traditional business class cradle seat.

(btw I realize you weren't being 100% serious)
The Spacebed is a wonderful business class seat. If you want to be flat, then you can be. If you want to be in a comfortable recliner, then you can do that too. I just flew 18 hours in that seat and it was extremely comfortable. I found it just as comfortable fully reclined into angle mode as it was when I didn't recline it all the way and had a kink in it so that I could sit up and enjoy a movie. You do slide a bit, but if you wear higher friction clothes like jeans and a jersey, you won't slide much at all.

On your SIN-SFO 1-stop leg you will get to enjoy the spacebed seat which is the very nice lie flat seat. The armrests go down when it is fully reclined so that you have an extra wide space and can sleep in any position. If you opt for the angled flat (fully reclined mode), then you might slide some and find that uncomfortable, but it still is much better than a traditional business class seat like the one you will get from India to Singapore. The India-Singapore leg isn't very long and the seat you get with SQ is far better than what any of the other airlines based in India like Jet Airways, Air India, Indian Airlines offer to SIN.

And to post an A.net picture in a forum enclose the words photoid:930201 (with 926682 replaced with whatever photo id number) within angled brackets < and > with no spaces to get the picture to show up.

Exactly. Big grin

Only 9V-SVx series flies intercontinental routes, as has been discussed earlier. The very same thing came up a few days ago.

SQx is 3-class 777-212ER with old seats
SRx is 2-class 777-212ER with old seats

Thanks for the detailed and clear information, having mentioned that you just flew it for 18 hrs(I'm assuming SIN-EWR on A345) what kind of power outlet is used on space beds, is it like the "empower" that DL has? I have my dell laptop and air adapter with me and would like to watch some movies during the flight.

I didn't look as I didn't bring my laptop. Maybe someone else can answer that or you could call SQ. As far as movies go though, you will have KrisWorld. It has 60 movies to choose from. On my flight it had about fifteen new release blockbusters. Ten relatively new release dramas, about five classics from the 90s, three old movies in black and while, and twenty five in foreign languages. There were plenty of good movies on demand to choose from, so there really is no need to bring a laptop to watch movies.

And yes I did fly EWR-SIN-EWR this last week. The service was quite good. Food was decent. Look for a trip report on it in the coming days with full detailed information.

Domestic...no, Regional...Yes. But I think a short hop aross the island in a 777 would be interesting.

I flew one of the regional 777s from BLR-SIN and it had the same seats in Raffles. I was in First which I found quite comfortable. I got the Spacebeds the next day from SIN-EWR and found I liked them better in a cradle position. It is plenty comfortabel but I hated feeling like I was sliding off.

no offence would love to help

but please check SQ's website first!!! its alllll there!! it shows which seats are on the regional flights and which ones are on the intl ones....

intl has great raffles seat they're called the 'spacebeds' i blieve. they recline to full flat but just at a slanted angle.. they're the best biz classs i've been on on a looooooooooong time.. huge LCDs and beautiful service and just the best of the best undeniably..

the regional are a lil worse.. but still good.. smaller screen.. no flat.. smaller seats but hey its still nice..... soo yeh depends on what route you're flying so on you MIN-SIN flight it might be the old 777 u gotta check.. but i assure u SIN-SFO will be the new raffles calsss with spacebed and its amazing belive me u wont doubt SQ agian!!

Doesn't it also accept the round Asian plugs? Mine wasn't working when I flew SIN-EWR so I can't remember. I didn't want to do any work on the way home anyways so it didn't bother me.

Check out www.seatguru.com where they can tell you what power supplies are used on various planes. I also carry an iGo power supply which has AC, cigarette lighter, and Empower adapters.

I'm sure you will have a great flight with SQ. If I were you, I'd go on the Boeing 777, rather than the 747-400. This is because their c class product is in a 2-2-2 configuration, and the width of the seat is 22 inches, yes 22, more than UA's F class seat. You will have A LOT of room to stretch out, on their 747's it is still 20 inches, more or less standard. If you are curious on the pitch of the 772ER's, in C, it is 57, so more than enough. SQ is always highly recommendable, their service is excellent, and their IFE even better. As for the ultimo seats, they are fine, more than enough for a regional flight.
Hope this helps.

Cheers, Konstantin G.

it accepts US and european type plugs but not the british or asian 3 pins plug that u find in HK and SIN.However SQ does carry a few adaptors(about 2 -3)on all spacebed equipped flights for passengers who request for it.Of course they will collect it back at the end of the flight.Just ask the FA.
