DL New Route Map

Sat Oct 15, 2005 11:51 am

After years of having an outdated route map, DL has finally updated it and I might add that it is quite nice. Very userfriendly, just like the entire website.

Here it is

DL should have used a different style for this map. Different colors too would not hurt.

Yeah, it's definitely an improvement over the last one, but the circles are large and its hard to tell which cities belong to the circles. Also, it's not interactive like I would like for it to be. However w/ so many domestic and codeshare flights all over the world, a interactive route map would be hard to read.

The new DL map blows. For one, I do not like route maps that only show cities and not the routes themselves. Oh great, DL flies to GIG, but is that from JFK, or ATL? Unless you're a fanatical a.netter, you wouldn't know!

Also those big blue circles and dark blue symbols to designate code-share cities looks horrible. BA's new routemap and LA's online map are far superior.

I agree, however, AirTran has a nice interactive map as well as other airlines. DL could have done better with this area I think.

It needs a little geography and spelling work.

They have Bakersfield north of Fresno, it should be south.

SBP is spelled on the map San Louis Obispo, it should be San Luis Obispo, no O in Luis.

I sent them an e-mail about a month ago complaining about the old route map. Seems to have worked somewhat (I doubt they changed it just for me), so I'm going to send them another e-mail demanding an interactive route map. We'll see what happens.

Tucson is also spelled "Tuscon"......did a 4-year old make this map? It still sucks...I hate it when you have to select a"region" to see what cities are there and ditto on being able to see the actual routes from the cities....why can't they have something similar to the route map in their Sky magazine? Or even make it better to something interactive like they have on the HP website?

I agree, Where is 'New Castle' and 'South Hampton'. BA launched their new route map which shows flights originating at LHR or LGW for all the individual regions/continents. Delta could of done better!

Let me say, I am thoroughly unimpressed... and I love DAL!! I much prefer BA's new map...

And none of the codeshare partners serve the continent of Australia??

Codeshare destinations are misleading and makes Delta look bigger than it really is.

They should only put the destinations that they fly to with Delta planes.

All I can say - get a new web designer - this route map is a design nightmare. No interactive elements, all those symbols cover so much that it makes the map very disfunctional.  irked

What a childish way to present the Delta Airlines network. This has to be one of the worst Route Maps I have ever seen. The silly light blue, dark blue, and arrows are nearly as bad as the Song website and its "dots". Yet another way that Delta Airlines is un-user friendly.

I don't think too many airlines actually have route maps anymore. Most maps only show the cities that an airline flies to. I think that the only major airlines that still has all of their routes on the map is CO (whose maps aren't too bad) and B6 (whose route map is really beginning to look ridiculous with all of their new service - they need to fix it).

CO's:

Domestic:

International:

May I just say that delta's new 'destination map' looks just like AirFrance's route map too with all of AF's and KL's destinations printed similarily. Maybe AirFrance influenced Delta with their route map. I really like BA's new route map. Very tastefully executed.

Wow, even that new route map is pretty bad. Like mentioned above, you can't see the actual routes.

I'm not a big fan of pdf maps either.

IMO, AC has a really nice route map: http://www.aircanada.com/en/travelinfo/destinations/maps/map.html

Well, the route map is an improvement over the old one, but that doesn't say much. Heck, even ASA's route map is interactive these days, why can't Delta's be?

Allegiant Air's route map is ideal. It shows exactly what cities are served from which destinations. I know they are a small airline but at least there is no confusion as to flight routings.

I find very unpractical the fact that no actual routes are shown - most specially on international destinations this becomes a big problem. Without routes, who guesses you can actually fly, for example, ATL-EZE-SCL-MEX-ATL and still accrue DL MQM's on all segments?

Looks quite childish...  Yeah sure

Anyways- Yes, it seems to be improved from the earlier maps. Quite nifty.. Although I do think some of the information is not correct, unless their scedules have changed. Example: It lists MCI as a Delta city, when in fact I've flown Delta Connection out of there many times.

Another issue with this map is its "troublesome" usage of regions, which are not exactly well-defined or standardized. I should think there are many Virginians who would be more comfortable with Southeast as opposed to Northeast, Lousianians Southeast as opposed to Central, Kentuckians Southeast as opposed to Midwest, Ohioans Northeast as opposed to Midwest...et cetera. A remark at the bottom indicates that the regions do not (necessarily) follow time zone lines, but they could have probably designed it around time zones (splitting some time zones) fairly easily.

It's not true that most majors don't have real route maps. The new US and HP both have complete printed route maps available, while HP has followed WN's lead in having a state-of-the-art, fully-interactive online route map showing destinations bookable from a given starting point.

Delta does actually have some nice new international route maps. They've tucked them away in their Research section for journalists. Go figure. In any case, they have maps of both their current expansion and all of their international routes (including those recently applied for to Mexico though excluding routes to Canada).
