Standby On Delta Questions

Sat Oct 15, 2005 5:37 pm

Hey all...I have a few questions:
I will be flying DL next month and I am on a song nonstop BDL-FLL

say I want to be adventurous and travel through Atlanta, can I stand by?
If it is an earlier flight do I have to pay a fee?
if it is a later flight do I have to pay a fee?

I will probably be stuck at the airport for 2 hours if I so the nonstop...so it would be easier for me to leave an hour ealrier to ATL and get a little spotting time in, personally. I will probably have 1 bag that can be checked or carried.

Well....there is NO revenue stand-by on DL except in IROP situations(flight cancellations etc...). If you want to go on an earlier flight you can pay a $25 charge and confirm yourself on that earlier flight if there is availability. As far as them changing your routing...not gonna happen!

So I cannot go up to them and say I want to go through Atlanta because otherwise I have to spend 2 hours in Fort Lauderdale waiting for my ride to pick me up?

My guess is that if you encounter a nice DL employee and ask them nicely they just might do it....but they don't have to and might not. Just be friendly and see what you can get. Of all the majors DL seems to have the most employees who will do that little extra something.

By the time you route through ATL, how is that going to take less time than waiting 2 hours in FLL?

You can do a Same Day Confirm to an earlier flight of the same routing, providing the same class of service is available. For example, if you hold a T class ticket, T class must be available on the flight you wish to same day confirm to. This will cost you $25.00 per person.

If you want to change your routing to go say, via ATL, you will pay all applicable change fees to your ticket. So if the fare rules for your ticket say there is a $50 change fee, you will pay that $50 administrative charge, plus the difference in fare between your original xxx-FLL routing and the new xxx-ATL-FLL routing. This is seen as a complete change to your schedule, and cannot be same day confirmed.

If you hold a full fare, Y class ticket, you can take an earlier flight at no charge, or go say a day earlier at no additional charge, because full fare Y class tickets allow changing to the date and flight providing the routing remains the same, and Y class is available on the new flight(s). A change in routing however, would be subject to a charge of the change in fare between the new and old routing.

SkyTeam Elite and SkyMiles Platinum members are allowd to make same day confirmed changes without penalty (again providing same class of service is available and routing remains the same).

I doubt you'll find an agent that will change your routing and not charge you the change in fare, unless you get stuck in an irop or something...

Shoot me a private message as far as what dates and whatnot, and where you are going from FLL...maybe I'll make your life easier...

Never know what will happen if you ask a Delta agent. Got bored in Vegas (ok, ran out of money I could afford to lose) checked in for a flight to TPA hours early..went to the gate..to find a flight leaving for TPA. Had one of those " we charge if you even think about changing your mind" tickets. Went to gate agent..an older woman ..asked if there was anyway I could get on board..she put me on a later flight, cancelled that ( don't know why) then put me on the flight that was about to depart..asking which row of seats I wanted. Another reason I love Delta.  thumbsup

Same here... I cleared immigration/customs early in ATL and asked the agetn of the next available flight to let me go standby. He didnt even look at my face and say no no no unless you pay $25. I was using miles and told him that those free tickets dont fall into that policy :"no no no". I Asked for the supervisor.. he put me on.
In FLL going to ATL.I asked the agent for the flight before if i could go stanby beacuse "i was afraid my flight was going to be delayed" and didnt want to miss my connection. She didnt hesistate to give me a boarding pass on the spot IN FIRST CLASS!!

so.. it all depends who you get at the gate.

Actually the only requirement is an available seat regardless of class of service booked. So if Y inventory is the only available class of service and you are holding a T class ticket DL will overbook T class pulling from Y inventory provided you are requesting SDC within 3 hours of scheduled departure time for desired flight.

Quoting VgnAtl747 (Reply 4):
If you want to change your routing to go say, via ATL, you will pay all applicable change fees to your ticket.

SDC is origin and destination specific only. You are allowed to change to a 1 connection flight, 2 connection flight or nonstop flight if desired provided your origin and destination stay the same. Co-terminals invalidate SDC, so you are unable to go to JFK if you were originally ticketed into LGA.

Only waived for Delta PM's and GM's except for when changing Song to Song or DL to Song in which case it is $25.

There is now an Administrative Service Charge to change award reservations after ticketing. It is $50. You are allowed to do Same Day confirmed within 3 hours of desired flight for $25 provided there is an available seat. The DL agent, although could have presented the policy more professionally, was correct. You were fortunate the supervisor waived the fee for you.

To answer the original question(s). No standby unless inconvenienced by DL, another airline, or Air Traffic Control/Weather.
The fee is $25 for Same Day confirmed within 3 hours. Outside of 3 hours there is a $25 Administrative Service Charge (provided original ticket was all Song) plus or minus the fare difference for the new flights. You can do either for an earlier or later flight.
It's a big building with patients, but that's not important right now.
