744 also on SYD-JNB , SYD-SIN-FRA , some SYD-HKG services

743 were doing SYD-BOM and SYD-HNL as well but I think I read on Flyertalk that there have been some changes on that - not too sure at the moment - I think they may even be back doing some SYD-PER services . SYD-NRT too I think

SYD-HNL is a 743. What is the EUD (747-338 EUD) designation for?

EUD= extended upper deck. It was originally SUD for stretched upper deck, but that was changed when it was pointed out that SUD means sudden unexplained death in mortiary language.

the routes are
SYD-LAX/HKG/TYO/JNB/BKK/BOM/SIN/HKG/FRA/LON/JFK/HNL/AKL/BNE*/MEL*/Antarctica
MEL-LAX/SIN/LON/AKL/Antarctica
BNE-LAX
AKL-LAX

The flights marked * are either positioning or tag on from long hauls. However they are also used on some long domestic routes like SYD-CNS/PER during peak periods.

The Antarctica flights are the summer flightseeing trips that have been operating for many years now.

The BOM flights are being swapped to an airbus very soon, if not already done so.

Any others that I have missed?

How do these work?
- Are they charters, where can you buy tickets, how long do they take, inflight entertainment/meals, is ther a specific timetable for them on Qantas website?

Do any other ailines offer flightseeing on Artarctica?

Yep they're charters, organised by Croydon Travel in Melbourne. Google them up and you should find what you're looking for. AFAIK QF are the only airline to offer the flights.

743s are also used once a week between PER and MEL.

Air New Zealand used to operate such charters into Antarctica too...

Are there still plans to route one of the London 744 flights through Shanghai PVG? Also they fly one London flight to Perth via Singapore with the 744.

Some years ago you could see QF 744s doing cruise charters to CPH and ATH during their long layovers at LHR. With QF offering more flights out of LHR and the layovers not being that long anymore these charters are a thing of the past though.

SYD-NRT too I think

Yep. Right about that one. I heard that this route is so good for doing a single aircraft operation that if one aircraft comes into the route (it doesn't get switched for a long time) because with the turn around time, the plane can do SYD-NRT at about exactly 24 hours.

pretty good except

BKK-FRA got switched to SIN-FRA a couple of years ago
MEL-BKK has gone I think - now QF only have SYD-BKK
PER-JNB is a codeshare operated by SA A340

SYD-NRT at 24 hours? - It takes 9 h 20 mins with QFs 743 to both directions. So SYD-NRT-SYD in 24 hours is hardly any trick at all ...

What was your point?

Hey,
Why would Qantas not have service to Toronto (CYYZ). There is not airline that has non-stop service to Toronto.
Cheers,

QF 743's also fly to CHC.

I think JAL might do this with the same 744 for a few days.

QF though arrive at NRT at 0610 and leave at 2045 daily so it takes 1.5 aircraft for a daily service.
