Odd Litttle Questions About US/HP Merger

First which two letter code are they going to use HP or US? I'd assume US.

Second, has HP switched over to US yet?

Third do HP flights still use the Cactus call sign?

Forth, if a US plane is in front of a HP plane does ATC tell the HP pilot to follow the "Company" plane?

Just a few questions that popped in my mind as I watched planes taxi around PHL yesterday.
A little less Hooah, and a little more Dooah.

I would assume US

It will take about 2 years for the full merger to be completed

Well, I was working when I was looking out the window and wondering about these questions. Is spotting good? You'd have to ask Wagz and some of the others, I haven't been aboe to go in a while, and the last time I went I was threatened by the police with the loss of my CIDA badge although UA management assured me that the police where wrong and I would have gotten it back.

We get LH 747 and UPS 747s as well as FedEX DC10s some of those FedEX planes used to fly in modified UA colors that was a sight.

Mostly we get the new US colors which I think are nice and WN has its special paint jobs in almost everyday. But for the most part its just A320s and A319s and 737s all day.

The days we get things out of the ordinary are usually days people don't go out to spot becasue the weather is bad and we are getting diversions from JFK and EWR.

Most of the usual passenger widebody action at PHL includes many US 767s & A330s, AF A330s, BA 777s & LH A340s & 747s; although from what Joe (Wagz) told me that after this month, LH will only be flying the A340s to PHL. The LH 744s must've been only a seasonal upgrade. Up until this spring, BA would use a 747 for some of its PHL flights.

On some occasions, some sports teams charters would use widebodies. Those are a nice little change of scenery from the usuals. When the Oakland Raiders were in town a few weeks ago, I saw their HA 767-300 (with Raiders decal) parked near Atlantic Aviation.

As far as spotting is concerned, within the past year police hassles are not as frequent as they had been before (I guess Paul (Runway27Right) wore them down a bit). Usually, if you park on the opposite side of the road (Hog Island Road for the 27R landings) with respect to the AOA fence; they'll usually leave you alone. The 9R side has No Parking signs erected all along the road; a passing police officer (be it Philadelphia or Tinicum Township) is usually more likely to hassle you there.

When ATC is directing aircraft, they'll sometimes instruct one aircraft to do something based on the position of another within their field of vision. If both aircraft are flying for the same airline, they'll say "Follow COMPANY 737," or whatever - meaning, follow YOUR company's other plane.

I don't believe they'll refer to US/HP planes as "company traffic" while still operating under two certificates and using the individual US and HP names for operations, though.

Hey whataboutme, I live in Gastonia and will be returning home in a few weeks from NZ. E-mail me if you'd like to get together and do some spotting sometime. I have two months off of school when I get back to NC and plan on spending lots of time spotting at CLT  Smile

Best place to spot IMO if you are a pax is in terminal A, right outside the US Club. You pretty much can see the whole field.

Sure will. I love going to CLT and spot, but I usally hate doing it by myself. I am only 10 mintues from CLT and we get all kind of planes over my house. I love when LH a340 leaves heading south cause I can see it from work. Keep in touch

Sure will, you'll need to e-mail me though since I can't e-mail you through your profile.  Smile I'm in the same boat as you, I love going over to CLT and spot but hate going by myself as well. Usually I have to go right by CLT in order to get to my Aunt's house or if i'm going to my Dad's office (which is right under the approach path to Runway 23). Everytime I go by there and one of my family members is with me I start making my way over to the overlook only to hear "Adam, not the airport AGAIN"....LOL.
