Jet Airways Inks Pact With Gulf Air

Tue Oct 18, 2005 3:23 am

Jet Airways on Monday said it has signed a frequent flyer programme partnership agreement with Gulf Air.

The agreement allows members of the Jet Privilege (JP) programme to earn and redeem JP Miles when travelling with their new partner airline.

Moreover, elite tier Jet Privilege members can also enjoy premium privileges such as lounge access and extra baggage allowance among others when they fly with Gulf Air, Jet Airways informed the Bombay Stock Exchange.

As this is a reciprocal relationship, members of Gulf Air Frequent flyer programme will also be able to earn and redeem miles, as well as enjoy special benefits when travelling with the company.

Is this FFP tieup headed to further cooperation between the airlines?

Also - shouldn't 9W be looking seriously at a Skyteam membership (the GF relationship is good - but may not be the goal in itself?)

With the kind of standards Jet Airways are setting in domestic and international aviation should have the various Star Alliance / Skyteam and One World queueing up outside their office doors.

As a matter of fact, they are. But the real worry is that Jet Airways standardsin things like age of aircraft, quantifiable aspects of onboard service and customer relationships would get diluted if they tied up with the three bigconsortiums. I mean, can you imagine a Jet Airways passenger's feelings when onboard some of the members of the three alliances?

The tie-up with Gulf Air is just the formalising of a very old relationship. And the setting up of new standards in the air.

Well - ultimately it's just an alliance - and there are bound to be differences in the service levels. I would view this as bringing the standards of Skyteam up a notch (if in fact they do tie up with Skyteam).

I don't think it's that much of a worry - because people are already flying other airlines and realize there is a difference in the service.

What it would add is much needed benefits like FFP accrual, status on multiple airlines, flight schedule coordination etc.

Right now, a 9W platinum FFP member is basically a regular Joe on most of the other airlines in the world - he would benefit significantly if he stood a chance of using the lounge or being upgraded while flying the other 20 airlines in some alliance.

I can't understand why 9W is not moving forward with finalizing an alliance, especially if the alliances are knocking on their doors.

The only thing I see 9W might loose is they may need to follow a minimum miles concept (500 or 750 miles per flight), not the shitty 106 miles I get when flying BLR-MAA! In addition they'd probably have many more Gold & Platinum members to worry about - since now you'd earn 9W miles even if you're flying any of the other alliance members.

E-Ticket the route, and get 500 miles extra, which adds up. Good luck.

I wish! My travel agent has grown sick of my requests for e-tickets - she insists that she can't issue an eTicket on any interline ticket (like 9W+LH or IC+BD). Hence I'm stuck at 106 miles at the moment Sad. Hopefully these itenaries will be things of the past - given the explosion of International carriers flying direct from BLR this winter cloudnine
