Good to see...don't really know what United is doing though by having both departures in the morning. I personally would think a morning and mid-afternoon flight would be more desireable. Another new destination for the Star Alliance network creating some competition for the Skyteam trapped DAB.

I will believe it when I see it. Until then it is just a rumour. Even tho OAG has it in their timetable.

You can book it on United.com now

This will stick unlike the weekend only Air Canada that canceled back in 2003.

Not a rumour. Washington Dulles-Daytona Beach is already bookable on res systems, starts 08Feb06. It will be announced later this week, as will Denver-Knoxville, Tenn.

Cool... Would have liked to see something other than a CRJ (read: Ted), however any new airline is welcome to reduce fares down here... I too am wondering what airline will operate this route.

Are you sure Mesa is going to be doing DEN-TYS? Skywest has done most of the TYS flights out of ORD the past year or so, it would make sense to continue the plane on to DEN. Then again... we all know just how little sense UA makes.

Mesa is doing IAD-DAB. Skywest is indeed doing DEN-TYS.

Why didn't they do this before ZW stopped flying for United? I would love to be able to nonrev into DAB, as my alma mater is in that town and I still have friends in the area.

Nice to DAB getting more service.

Just in time for Speed Weeks and Spring Break. Wonder how long they will operate it after the February and March rush?

...and another travel option for PVD travelers is always a good thing too. PVD connects to both DAB flights in each direction (1 each way is 3 hour layover though). No bargain fares yet as the rountrip I looked at in Feb was almost $800.00!

That's why UA is coming in. Because they see the high fares DL is getting. It's not like a LCC is coming in, I'm afraid...

I spoke with the airport management at DAB some time ago. They do not reduce the gate fees there. However, they have a budget to "help" the airline with advertising in the area (billboards, tv, radio...)..not sure how much they put into it, but it helps. They also waive the landing fees for the first year to each new city opened. So no landing fees for this service for a year from the service start date. Not such a bad deal.

I was an intern at DAB this past spring, and I can honestly say that any perspective airline is offered a very nice advertising package. Though from what I understand, all of DAB's advertising is in-house, and it is lacking in creativity quite a bit.

I don't suspect this route will last. The local paper here in DAB has a UA source stating that the initial round-trip fare would be over 700 dollars. During the same time period a traveler out of MCO (1hr drive away) can get a fare for under 300 dollars. Nothing like UA starting service back to DAB (been gone since the 80's) with a nice high fare to ensure the routes failure (yes..sarcasm is turned on).

I read that article, and it is pointless. The intro fares and proper inventory for the flight have yet to be loaded.

Yea..that local article was dumb since they had no sources of comments from either the airport or United. If you noticed the article didnt even say "announced"..but rather they said "scheduled" DAB service, hopefully a better article in the paper will follow. I think any DAB service on the east coast to a hub will do fine, Even in the slow seasons there load factors rarely dip below 80%, DL is retrenching...CO will have 2x mainline, so UA will be a nice addition.

I still cant for the life of me figure out why US hasnt thrown a few RJS to CLT, they would be full from day 1.

I heard a few months ago that they were looking at doing that once they got out of bankruptcy (back when it was "IF" they get out of bankruptcy). Nothing's come of it since, AFAIK, although it would be nice. I would probably use that route if they would start it.

They were REALLY close back when US was between bankrupcies, but thats when their future wasnt looking so hot, I know even Congressman Mica was involved in that effort. The airport has even invited scheduling officials down and have them Daytona 500 tickets back in 2003 i think, I had to drive them to their hotel so i was talking to them and they were looking at using the E170s (which had yet to come online).

WN going into PHL, and the 2nd CH11 may have changed some priorities, its still only a matter of time before it happens. I wouldnt be suprised if it happens sometime in 2006 with 3x 50-70 seat RJs to CLT.

In addition, i know at LEAST 5-10 ERAU grads that have been hired into UAL management in the past 2-3 years, so i'll bet that helped get UA in!

Wouldn't you think they would use larger planes to ferry folks down for Spring Break and Bike Week? Or would they just move some planes around to add capacity during those weeks? I remember when I flew DL to MSY for Mardi Gras a few years ago and it had flight number something like 9895 (definitely outside the normal ranges used daily.)

Its still early... you dont want to add capacity too early...typically florida seasonal additions are announced in December or January

Very true. I grew up in Titusville and have never considered Daytona the capitol of Florida industry so CRJs may be the right size for normal conditions there. I would expect that if the UAL flight stays they may upgrade it to a mainline at least once or twice a day. DAB kind of gets the shaft with MCO and JAX within driving range.

Usually there are contract issues with mainline, plus it may be better to add a 3rd frequency rather than add 50 seats to make it a 737-500.

I think eventually a 3rd IAD plus a CR7 or E170 to ORD would be nice. Chiacago is always a solid destination on any airports route map.
