Airlines That Don't Fly Turboprops

Wed Oct 19, 2005 11:14 pm

Hi,
I was just wondering what airlines and their subsidiaries do not operate any turbo prop a/c in their fleets.

From top of my head I can think of Emirates, Air France, MEA, El Al, Gulf Air, Qatar Airways.....

Thanks for sharing

I could also add Virgin Atlantic, Westjet Airlines, Canjet, Harmony Airlines, Southwest.

Air France

Regional Airlines that operates for Air France uses Embraers 120 and SAAB 2000. Thus you can see them with Air France liveries. Not sure if it counts though

What about the low costs? Ryanair, Easyjet, Air Berlin, Germanwings... I don't think those operate turboprops. Or do they?

If you do it that way... then UA, US, CO, etc. don't operate their own props either, because they farm all that work out to regional carriers like Skywest, Commutair, Colgan, etc.

A few of the carriers in Asia don't even have any narrowbody aircraft in their fleet. Shoot, where else can an Airbus A-321 be called a "regional" jet?

Wouldn't it make more sense to have a thread about mainline airlines that do operate props?  Wink

Biman has no turboprops, but has a tender out for Dash 8s and ATRs, but no takers thus far.

DrukAir of Bhutan has 2 A319s, and 2 BAe 146s (to be sold), but no turboprops.

Emirates has all wide body jets, as does SIA.

Air Asia of Malaysia has all jets.

Cathay Pacific and Dragon Air of Hong Kong all jet as well.

Icelandair has all jets.

Ryanair has all jets.

JetBlue all jets.

....the list can go on and on....

In terms of larger carriers, no one has yet mentioned LA. No carrier in the LAN group has props.

book with AF. get AF tickets and count towards AF's passenger stats. But you are right. None of the aircraft are actually operated by AF.

Truth be told, I did not know about Great Lakes Aviation. However, I just checked their (Great Lakes) website as well as A.net's photo database and discovered that there was not one turboprop painted in F9 or F9 Express/Connection livery. OTOH, there are some Great Lakes Turboprops painted in UAx livery.

So in this particular case, while Great Lakes may have a codeshare w/F9; it may not be counted as part of the F9 fleet... anymore than CO's fleet would be considered part of NW's fleet or TZ's fleet be considered part of WN's fleet and so forth.

Air Nostrum operates a fleet Dash, ATR and 2 Fokker 50 on behalf of Iberia. Anyway flights are with an IB number, and have the IB livery.
BTW Air Nostrum is a wonderful airline, much better than its "mother company"!

JP has an all jet fleet as well, comprised of 3 A320s and 7 CRJ-200LRs.
KM too has 4 A320s, 5 A319s and 5 B733s, sans turboprops.
CY is also prop-less.

If we'd include cargo airlines, that'd lengthen the list considerably.

Continental Airlines
ExpressJet Airlines (no longer owned by Continental Airlines)
Continental Micronesia (division of Continental Airlines)

Although Continental codeshares with several turboprop operators who operate under the "Continental Connection" brand, they are all independently owned.

redngold you're getting kind of picky there.  Smile

If I buy a flight on Continental to say FWA, it's still a prop from CLE, and it says Continental on the side. Northwest's props are run by Mesaba, UA's by Shuttle/Colgan/Skywest (I think that's all), so we'd have to count them all.
