Sat Oct 22, 2005 12:28 am

Well I'll be darned, they've been able to negotiate more A320s into the fleet.  eyepopping

PHILIPPINE Airlines (PAL), in a refleeting and fleet modernization program, is expecting delivery of three newly leased Airbus 320s starting this month up to December, company president Jaime Bautista said.

Ah crap you beat me to it.

ok so they are getting

1 A320 each month starting Oct 31 till the end of december.

for a total of 3 aircrafts

WOW

2 A319's by the 4th quarter of next year. Im impressed.

FINALLY some new aircrafts. I guess this coincides with the end of lease of some of the B737's.

So a full Airbus fleet by 2009.

Great news indeed

This means for the last 2 years PR was able to get new equipment.

4th Quarter 2003 1 B747-400
4th Quarter 2004 3 A320's
4th Quarter 2005 3 A320's
4th Quarter 2006 2 A319's

PR also needs some wide bodies, maybe extra A340's and A330's.

Indeed those 737s have endured alot for PAL, but now it's time for the airline to move on.

Hey BTW

PR is flying to PEK starting 11 Nov 3 times a week Tuesday, Friday and Sunday using A320's.

This is great after 16 years. The flight was axed back in 89 due to financial problems of the route.

Hopefully if it becomes successful they can go daily.

Btw I think this is the only direct link between PEK and MNL no other airline operates this route.

I was questioning how PAL was gonna squeeze the aircraft for this route but now I guess this was answered. Big grin

The owner seems to have a good appetite of leasing 2nd hand aircraft. Why not brand new? The owner is as wealthy as the owner of Kingfisher in India. PR fare is not cheap either. They simply can't compete with better equipped newer planes offered by other asian airlines. Used to fly PR and NW at lot in the 90's, but switched to CX, SQ and others for better cabin facilities.

Cheers
